May 30, 2007Dear Parents and Guardians:Please know that our highest concern in Prince William County Public Schools is your child’ssafety. At C.D. Hylton High School, we have a crisis management and response plan that works inconcert with the School Division’s overall plan.To further ensure the safety of our students and staff, we need your help and cooperation duringemergency events. If you learn of a school or an area emergency, please do not rush to school topick up your child. While we understand this is an instinctive response, the reality is that additionaltraffic will block any needed emergency vehicles and your presence at the site could delay theevacuation process. The School Division Web site (www.pwcs.edu) is regularly updated and isalways a good place to go for the most accurate and up-to-date information. Our goal is to always keep you informed of important school news in a timely fashion. Therefore, you may receive a telephone call, email, or text message informing you of important situations. Please listen to or read these messages closely. Rest assured, if we have an early dismissalrequiring you to pick up your children, you will be clearly instructed to do so. However, in mostcases, school is not dismissed early and it is not necessary for you to pick up your child as classeswill resume as soon as possible. We realize your child may even call you directly from his/her cellphone asking that you pick them up, but please wait for the official word from the school or SchoolDivision before coming to the school. Each school’s emergency response plan includes procedures for protecting children first, followedby a system of reuniting them with you in a safe, orderly and timely manner. If you have recentlychanged or added telephone numbers (including cell phone numbers) or email addresses, pleasemake sure the school has accurate contact info for you by contacting our Guidance office at703.580.4067.Thank you for your cooperation. Please remember that you play an essential role in our efforts tokeep students safe.Sincerely,Carolyn M. CustardPrincipal2
