Malcolm Dickson(appointed July 2008)Malcolm R. Dickson was a police officer for 30 years after graduatingfrom the University of St. Andrews in 1977. He served with Lothian andBorders Police in every rank from Constable to Deputy Chief Constablecovering a wide range of operational and strategic roles. He wasresponsible for commanding the policing of many major events inEdinburgh, including the millennium street party, royalty and state visitsand numerous demonstrations including those related to the G8Summit at Gleneagles in 2005, as well as the introduction of manypolicing innovations.As a member of the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotlandfrom 2000, he was involved with Criminal Justice Reform improvingservices for victims, liquor licensing reform, the creation of media relations guidance and theprivatisation of prisoner escort and court custody management from January 2006 to July2007. He was the Assistant Inspector of Constabulary for Scotland and made a significantcontribution to the momentum for police reform. Netta has over 30 years’ experience ofworking in Scotland’s social care sector, including working withfamilies and children affected by serious physical or sexual abuse.Most recently, Netta was Chief Executive of Turning Point Scotland,a leading social and health care charity. She is also a qualified socialworker, and spent her earlier career in Strathclyde in a specialistunity providing services to families where children had been seriouslyphysically or sexually abused. In the 1980s, Netta was AssistantDirector of Social Work for Comhairle nan Eilean, before returning toStrathclyde to work with drug and alcohol services and developingthe region’s strategic response to HIV/AIDS in collaboration with localhealth boards.
