<strong>Marauder</strong> Men's Basketball f<strong>in</strong>ds Desert a difficult place to play for second straightseason and drop out of first <strong>in</strong> the Foothill Conference for the first time this season, los<strong>in</strong>g78-77.Wed., Feb. 6The <strong>Marauder</strong> Basketball annual Coaches vs. Cancer fundraiser to benefit the AmericanCancer Society saw not onlyboth <strong>Marauder</strong> teams w<strong>in</strong>, butalso $10,819 for the cause.Newton Chelette, AVC'sInterim Vice President ofStudent Services and AthleticDirector, but also a <strong>Marauder</strong>record break<strong>in</strong>g and Hall ofFame basketball coach, hit 24free throws <strong>in</strong> the 60 secondsallotted. There were pledged $347 per free throw for a total of $8,328 via the free throws.Additionally, n<strong>in</strong>e <strong>in</strong>dividuals came forward and donated $100 each when Chelette wasable to make a free throw bl<strong>in</strong>dfolded.There was $1200 pledged without regard for the free throws. And, thanks to AVC'sAssociated Student Organization, that night's tickets receipts of $391 were donated. Allof that totals the $10,819 figure.<strong>Marauder</strong> Men's Basketball beat Barstow 73-67 giv<strong>in</strong>g John Taylor his 300th w<strong>in</strong> for hisAVC career as head coach of both the men's and women's squads.Sat., Feb. 9Wed., Feb. <strong>13</strong>Mon., Feb. 18Wed., Feb. 20<strong>Marauder</strong> Tennis opened the season los<strong>in</strong>g three matches - 2-7 to Sequoias, 1-8 toCerritos and 0-9 to Bakersfield. Chelsey Bremer, play<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the fourth spot, won two ofher three matches.<strong>Marauder</strong> Men's Basketball had six players <strong>in</strong> double figures as AVC once aga<strong>in</strong> beatVictor <strong>Valley</strong> by over 60 po<strong>in</strong>ts, 105-41. It marked the second best w<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Marauder</strong>history at 64 po<strong>in</strong>ts, the most be<strong>in</strong>g this season's 69 po<strong>in</strong>t w<strong>in</strong> at Victor <strong>Valley</strong> when theRams only scored 16 po<strong>in</strong>ts - the lowest by a men's team s<strong>in</strong>ce the addition of the threepo<strong>in</strong>t l<strong>in</strong>e and 35 second clock <strong>in</strong> 1984. It was also the first time AVC had gone over 100po<strong>in</strong>ts <strong>in</strong> two years, and the first time <strong>in</strong> regulation s<strong>in</strong>ce Feb. 14, 2007.<strong>Marauder</strong> Fastpitch/Softball got back on their w<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g ways, scor<strong>in</strong>g seven runs <strong>in</strong> thefifth to beat LA <strong>Valley</strong> 10-1. Breanne Far<strong>in</strong>as, Haley Schulman and Taylor Anderson allhomered for the <strong>Marauder</strong>s, with Schulman tak<strong>in</strong>g the w<strong>in</strong> on six strikeouts.Not a good day for the <strong>Marauder</strong>s at San Bernard<strong>in</strong>o <strong>Valley</strong>.Baseball loses 4-1 <strong>in</strong> their Foothill Conference opener.Women's Basketball loses 65-47.Men's Basketball loses their chance at a conference title, as they lose to the Wolver<strong>in</strong>esfor the 10th straight time, 63-57
