Wed., Nov. 14Marauder Volleyball wins 11th straight with 3-1 over Chaffey and second straightFoothill Conference title in Jane Cwayna's last regular season match.Marauder Soccer’s Morgan Jones and Megan Ferrell were named first team All-FoothillConference. For Jones, it is a step up from last season when shewas second team. Those named to the second team was ShawnaSaitta for the second straight season and Delaney Enriquez.Honorable Mention was Jocelyn Padron, the Marauders' leadingscorer Daisy Vite and Rosana Reyes.JonesMarauder Football placed five players on the first team All-American Pacific team,including offensive linemen Joe Grant (unanimous) and DuaneAbney II, defensive lineman Edwin Delva (unanimous),linebacker and AVC's top tackler Kris O'Neal (unanimous) anddefensive back and AVC's top interceptor Mike Smith. Namedsecond team was running back Frank Brown and quarterbackGrantDerrick Dison - AVC's second leading career passerand passing TD record holder. Mikeisha Moore scored 14 points,followed by Yvette Bennett and Kambria Berry with 11. Whitney Washington swatted sixblocked shots.In their last Foothill Conference season, Marauder Volleyball again pulled down thelion’s share of All-Conference selections. Kristal Campos who led in kills and points,was named was named the fifth Marauder Foothill ConferencePlayer of the Year and like the team, it was the third selectionin the four three years. The three of the others were AshleyMarroquin in 2009, Jennie Nua in 2005 and Aimee Sayles thesetter from the undefeated in the regular season 1993 team.Campos became just the third Marauder to be named to the AllsouthernCalifornia Regional team.The fourth and last year’s Player of the Year, Allyson Lods wasnamed first team All-Foothill Conference along with CheriseAustin who led AVC in stuff blocks and Victoria Munz who wereboth named second teamlast season.Named second team wasthe Marauders’ two setterDanielle Tracy and TarynnSchultze.Jane Cwayna, in her32nd and final season asMarauder head coach, wasAbneyCamposAustinnamed Foothill Conference Coach of the Year for the fifth time and second season in arow.SmithLodsMunz
Marauder Men's Basketball wins their home opener beating LA Valley 91-58. JuliusBilbrew scored 18 points. The Marauders extended their 42-34 halftime lead with a 58percent shooting performance in the second and held the Monarchs to just 32 percent.Wed., Nov. 20Thu., Nov. 21Thu., Nov. 29Fri., Nov. 30Sat., Dec. 1Marauder Volleyball ended their season with a 25-7, 25-17, 25-21 playoff loss at No.3 Golden West to finish 17-6, 13-1 and champions of the Foothill Confernce. TheMarauders led 10-8 in the second set, but Golden West pushed back with 11 straightpoints. In the final set, AVC was up 21-20 when the Rustlers started to overpower theMarauder blockers and went on for the win. Kristal Campos recorded seven kills on thenight, while Allyson Lods upped her record breaking dig total with 17.Jane Cwayna ends her coaching career with the Marauders after 32 years and 316-249overall in those years.In what has become an annual tradition, Marauder Athletics gave back to the communityit serves by donating meat to the AV Community Shelter.Each year Interim Vice President of Student Services andAthletic Director Newton Chelette collects money fromfaculty and staff of the Kinesiology, Athletics and DanceDivision (and more recently Visual and Performing Arts)- which he then matches, then buys animals at the AVFair livestock auction. The animals are then preparedand finally delivered to the shelter. This year's meatincluded pork and lamb.Marauder Women's Basketball loses in overtime to still undefeated Santa Rosa 64-59 inthe opening round of the Sequoias Tournament.It has been 17 years since a team has been able to defend their Gregg Anderson MemorialTournament title, and it will be another year before anyone else can try. The No. 9 instate Marauder Men’s Basketball couldn't contain the quickness of the No. 6 Pierceand couldn't hit the three when necessary, losing 70-63. Daviyon Draper scored 15 forthe Marauders, hitting two of the Marauders four threes. AVC was four for 14 from threeon the night.For the first time in nearly a quarter century the Marauders would be watching the gameson the final day of the Gregg Anderson Memorial Tournament rather than playing in it.With a MiraCosta 64-62 win, last year champion Marauders are out. It is also the firsttime since 2005 that AVC was bounced from any tournament in two games.Marauder Women's Basketball end their trip to the Sequoias Tournament with a 58-51loss to Riverside. Mikeisha Moore scored 20 points in the loss.Wed., Dec. 5Fri., Dec. 7Marauder Men's Basketball ends two game losing streak, beating previously undefeatedand Gregg Anderson Memorial Tournament Champions Ventura 67-54 in opening roundof the Riverside Tournament.Marauder Men's Basketball took another half-time lead, only to lose the game by eightas they exited the Riverside Tournament with a 72-64 loss to Mt. San Jacinto. TheMarauders led 37-30 at the half, then shot just 29 percent in the second half as the Eagleshit 52 percent of their shots to move past AVC.
