8<strong>Greenhead</strong>newswww.greenhead.ac.ukNEWSLETTER ISSUE <strong>16</strong> <strong>Spring</strong> <strong>2011</strong>1st Team Football Report: British <strong>College</strong>s’Cup Champions for Yorkshire!The team continue to progress and out of a squad of 15, 11 are first yearstudents which augurs well for next season.They wererewardedby winningthe Final ofthe British<strong>College</strong>s’ Cup(Yorkshire),defeating thepreviouslyunbeatenWyke <strong>College</strong>from Hull4-3 afterextra time.The playersdeserve greatcredit aftergoing behind2-3 with 15 minutes left to force an equaliser and grab the winner in extra time. We now progress into aNational Cup with a home tie against the traditionally strong Gateshead <strong>College</strong>. In the British <strong>College</strong>s’League, the only defeats have been when the team has been understrength due to examinations onWednesday afternoons. Congratulations go to five players who have represented the County - GregTaylor, Danny Cooke, Jake Robertson, Tom Gledhill and Greg Bower. RFTennis News:The Girls’ tennis squad have been successful ingetting to the National Tennis Finals held in March,<strong>2011</strong> at Bolton. This is the third consecutiveyear they have done so, and the competitorsare looking forward to a high standard of playthroughout the competition weekend. Both femaleand male tennis players from <strong>Greenhead</strong> havebeen successful in reaching the British <strong>College</strong>National Finals to be held in Bath this year.Further Sporting Achievements at theBritish <strong>College</strong> National Finals:Other sports which have been successful ingetting to Bath are Netball, Hockey, Trampolining,Swimming, and Golf.Congratulations to all concerned! KLUNetball Report:What a fantastic season for bothnetball teams!The First team has qualified to represent the NorthEast of England in the National Finals to be heldin Bath in April. Two of their players: HannahPriestley and Leah Collins have also been selectedfor the British <strong>College</strong>s’ representative side.Watch out Bath, here we come!The Second team has also performed to anexceptional level. They are still top of the leaguewhere they play against other colleges’ first teamsand look likely to stay there! As yet, they areunbeaten with only a few games remaining andlook likely to be crowned league champions! SYStop Press... Congratulations to <strong>Greenhead</strong>’s Jenny Walsh who represented West Yorkshire in the Senior Girls’ EnglishSchools’ Cross County Championships on 19/03/11. Jenny came 1st and will now represent England in the WorldChampionships.
