Gearboxes E BOXE BOX are helical gearboxes with case hardened and ground helical gears which guarantee long lifewith silent and smooth operation.Series of foot or flange mounted gearboxes with cylindrical output shaft and hollow plug-in inputshaft. (provision can be made for cylindrical input shaft – see page 13)• Range of gear ratios: • Foot and flange mounted • Electric motor output6.3 up to 25 double-reduction gearboxes - 2 pole: 0.25 up to 30kW25 up to 125 triple-reduction gearboxes - 4 pole: 0.25 up to 30kW- 6 pole: 0.25 up to 22kW- 8 pole: 0.25 up to 22kWDifferent options, e.g. various frequencies and voltages, explosion-proof electric motors, use with frequencyinverter are available upon request.GEARBOX DESCRIPTIONE BOX Gearboxes are designed for use with standard IEC flange mounted (B5 or B14A) electric motors.E BOX gearboxes are available as double- and triple reduction units of foot- or flange- mounted design in sevenframe sizes: 90 – 115 – 130 – 140 – 180 – 225 and 250mm (height of output shaft centre). Quality housing is ofgrey cast iron. The same housing is used for double- and triple- reduction gearboxes. When correctly filled withoil one component of the gearing is immersed. Oil filing, draining and checking of the oil level is enabled by holeswith plugs. Their location enables mounting of the gearboxes in any position. Please specify if any unit is to bemounted in V3 vertical position (output shaft up) as the unit must be fitted with an extra seal.Casehardened, hardened and ground gears are supported by quality heavy duty ball and/or roller-bearings. Bothinput and output shafts are fitted with an oil seal to prevent entry of impurities and leakage of lubrication oil.E BOX gearboxes could be delivereda) with standard IEC electric motor, which is connected to the gearbox through a hollow plug-in input shaftand flat flangeb) or with plug-in input shaft and flat flange without an electric motorc) or as independent units with solid cylindrical input shaft.Input and output shafts have cylindrical ends; tolerances according to ISO standards.Flanges comply with ISO and DIN standards for Flanged E BOX gearboxes. A full and comprehensive range ofelectric motors is available from Exico with or without gearboxes.CORRECT CHOICE OF GEARBOX USING SERVICE FACTORSThe power and size of a gearbox or/and its electric motor can be reliably calculated on the basis of operatingexperience or measuring and evaluating torque over a long operating period.Because these data are rarely available, it is possible to calculate the power of a gearbox or motor from output ofdriven machine by multiplying by service factors, which include dynamic load created from intermittent running ofthe driven machine, numbers of starts per hour, working time and fluctuating speed of the motor whilst running.P = P o x f m x f Driving machine f mP - Power necessary for gearbox (size of motor) (kW)P o - Required power for driven machine (kW)f m - Service factor of driving motor or engineElectric motorCombustion engine with 3 or more cylindersCombustion engine with 1 or 2 cylinders11.11.25f – Service factor of driven machineIn case of increased demands on safety of operation (places with difficult access, exposure of human life, etc.)the demanded output P must be multiplied by a coefficient of 1.25 up to 1.4.Service Factor fDaily operation 4 hours 8 hours 16 hours 24 hoursNumber of starts per hour 1 2-50 51-200 >200 1 2-50 51-200 >200 1 2-50 51-200 >200 1 2-50 51-200 >200Uniform, without shock I. 0.9 1 1.1 1.2 1 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.2 1.3 1.4 1.45 1.4 1.5 1.55 1.6Load Moderate, with shock II. 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 1.2 1.3 1.4 1.5 1.3 1.4 1.5 1.55 1.5 1.6 1.65 1.7Group Heavy, with shock III. 1.3 1.4 1.5 1.6 1.4 1.5 1.6 1.7 1.45 1.6 1.7 1.75 1.65 1.75 1.85 1.9-2-

DELIVERINGE BOX gearboxes are delivered as standard suitable for IEC electric motors. If applications for extreme climaticconditions are required special executions are available from the production factory. The paint finish corresponds to that of the motors supplied by Exico.E BOX gearboxes are assembled from components that are subject to strict inspection. After inspection the insideof the gearboxes are corrosion protected for 6 months whilst the outer parts, e.g. shaft ends, are coated with ashort-term preservative. Each gearbox is labelled and the label contains data of the origin and primary technicalspecification. In the case of a gearbox with an electric motor the motor has its’ own label. An electrical connectiondiagram can be found in the inside of the motor terminal box cover.E BOX gearboxes are delivered without lubricating oil and without installation bolts. Shaft ends are provided withkeys. Gearboxes are delivered protected from climatic influences during transportation within mainland Britain.STORAGEGearboxes are to be stored in a covered, dry storage area and if possible, under uniform temperature conditions. The maximum relative humidity must not exceed 80% at 20°C. In instances of long-term storage the storageconditions should be checked at intervals of not exceeding 6 months.HANDLINGFor transporting and handling an eyebolt is provided on the upper part of the casing. In the case of a gearboxfitted with an electric motor it is essential that both the gearbox and electric motor eyebolts be utilised.Gearboxes can be mounted in all positions as shown in the assembly positions chart for various applications.MOUNTING AND COMMISSIONINGMountingBefore mounting the gearbox must be carefully checked to ensure there is no damage or deformity. The anticorrosionpreservatives applied to the shaft ends may be removed utilising ecologically acceptable degreasers. The gearbox is delivered dry, i.e. without lubricating oil. As a result of this it may be necessary to remove thefilling and drain plugs and any condensation within the gearbox may be removed utilising compressed air.The gearbox must be installed so that the flow of cooling air is not in any way obstructed. It should also not beexposed to hot or polluted air. The gearbox and motor must not be placed close to a source of radiated heat. Thegearbox and motor should be suitably shielded from any possible heat source (including the sun). There must beclear access to the filling, drain and check holes and plugs of the gearbox. The gearbox should be mounted on a firm and solid base or on a steel-machined base surface. The main basemust be vibration free and it is suitable to smear the surface lightly with oil or grease. The base surface must beregularly aligned to the axis of the driven machine shaft. The manufacturer of the shaft couplings should be ableto provide acceptable misalignments of shaft axes. In the case of flanged gearboxes the mutual settings are givenby the concentricity and perpendicularly of joining flange areas. In case of imperfect adjustment of the connectedshafts and nonplanarity of the gearbox base axes the gearbox shafts will be crossed after tightening of theanchor bolts. Even if this misalignment is slight the hardened and ground gearing will develop an unsatisfactorymesh and become damaged. Insufficient care in the installation of the gearbox can cause undue noise and laterbreakage. For these reasons an accurate setting must be measured with a centesimal indicator on a magneticstand directly sat on the connected shafts. After the setting and fastening of the gearbox only a qualified person should connect the electric motor accordingto the wiring connection diagram found on the inside of the motor terminal box lid as well as to local and nationalelectric Rules and Regulations. The gearbox should be filled with oil according to the instructions in the section “Filling the gearbox with oil”.CommissioningE BOX gearboxes do not require to be run-in. They can be run from the beginning after starting under thespecified load. After a period of operation they will not require adjustment. At least once a month the air ventplug and oil level must be checked.-4-

Then replace the oil level plug into its’ correct hole and screw thebreather plug into the highest hole. The breather must not be restricted or obstructed. Any such restriction orobstruction may cause a build up of air pressure in the gearbox during operation and a consequent oil leakagethrough the shaft seal.Avoid overfilling the gearbox with oil. Such overfilling will cause overheating of the gearbox and oil leakage. For filling the gearbox use reasonable filling equipment in order to prevent oil spillage. We would recommendsuitable steps be taken to ensure any such spillages are contained and cleaned immediately.OIL CHANGINGIn cases where the oil temperature will be up to 65°C during operation the oil should be changed after every10,000 hours of operation or in any event every two years of use which ever is the soonest. In cases where theoil temperature will be up to 80°C during operation the oil should be changed after every 5,000 hours ofoperation. In cases where the oil temperature will be up to 95°C during operation the oil should be changed afterevery 2,000 hours of operation.Oil changing is carried out in the same way as the first filling. Drain the used oil into an appropriate receptacleand return it to any oil company for recycling or contact your local authority who will advise you of the correctway of disposing of the waste oil. For ecological reasons do not dump used, waste oil into a drain or watercourseetc. – always seek correct advice and ensure your waste is disposed of legally (your local EnvironmentalDepartment of your council will assist you).AMOUNT OF OILThe quantity of oil required to fill a gearbox depends on the size and its’ mounting position. INFORMATION FOR STOCKISTSThe Gearboxes could be delivered as an Assembly Kit. A Basic Unit consists of a gearbox of the specified ratioand the First Gear Pinion supplied loose. According to the size of the motor required for the application the FirstGear Pinion is then assembled with the relevant size of the E SHAFT (hollow plug-in shaft together with bothbearings). The E SHAFT could be either Male or Female depending on the physical size of the First GearPinion. The E SHAFT complete with the First Gear Pinion is then assembled with the Basic Unit and a Flat Flange isfitted to the Basic Unit according to the motor size and the type of motor flange, which could be either B5 orB14A (in certain cases).Standard IEC flange mounted electric motor can then be fitted.Design with standard IEC motors (with hollow plug-in input shaft & flat flange)-10-
