Data relating to Flight 1884. PayloadsHERSCHEL and PLANCKThe two payloads are both ESA scientific satellites built under the prime contractorresponsibility of Thales Alenia Space France (Cannes). After separation from the launcher, the two satellites will move into their operationalorbits round the second Lagrange point (L2) about 1,500,000 km from the side of theEarth in shadow. This represents a little over four times the distance from Earth to theMoon. The satellites will take nearly 60 days to reach this virtual point in space, wherethey will be located in Lissajous orbits with an amplitude of 400,000 km round Lagrangepoint L2. Their distance from Earth will vary between 1.2 and 1.8 million km.17
