There is never a dull moment at our house. 

This past June, my husband and I went to 

Argentina to do some wing shooting. It was 

the best duck hunting that I have done—well it 

was the only duck hunting that I have done. I

Mike and Cody. 

I still have horses—3 of them—and enjoy trail 

riding and camping with Nancy and Cody and 

any other kids or niece’ and nephews that want

keep busy helping Bob and Kathy Erkel with 

the Youth Group at church on retreats. 

I am on the Steering Committee of Becoming 

an Outdoor Woman which introduces

sledding, Skijoring and other outdoor activities.

After one year of partying at MSU, Scott decided 

to take a break from school and moved to Vail, 

CO, in the fall of 1981. John Todtleben joined 

him and Dirk Johnson moved there in the spring 

of 1982. After seven seasons of skiing and summers 

of construction work, Scott decided to 

return to MSU and got his B.S. in 1992. 

Scott’s date for the ten year reunion (Libby 

Osnes) became his wife in 1991. Libby moved 

to Monterey, CA, in 1990 to complete her 

Masters degree in Marine Science. Scott and 

Libby planned to spend three to four years in

Monterey, then move north to Oregon or Washington. 

Just before completing her Masters in 1997, 

Libby was offered a job supervising a wildlife 

rehabilitation center in Monterey. Since it 

looked like they were going to stay for awhile, 

Scott started his house painting business and 

bought a fixer-upper house. The house remodeling 

continues today with no end in sight. 

Scott does not ski as much as he would like 

to since the mountains are five hours away, but 

is back to playing golf and volleyball after many 

years off. 

Libby left the wildlife center after three years, 

spent a few years working with the animals 

at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and is now a 

veterinary technician at a local clinic. Working 

with animals has given Libby many opportunities 

to rescue domestic animals. The home 

“zoo” currently consists of three dogs, six cats, 

a tortoise, and over thirty birds, as well as the 

numerous wildlife that visit the property. 

Scott and Libby enjoy visiting the National 

and State Parks in California and have done 

some traveling to Oregon, Washington, Hawaii 

and New Zealand. They enjoy sharing the 

beautiful central coast sights and weather with 

visitors, so if a California trip is in your future, 

give them a call.

In 1985 I graduated from Mankato State with a 

degree in Business Administration and moved 

to Portland, OR, to be closer to family. I lived 

there for four years. During that time I worked 

for an employee benefits administrator, as a 

service representative, helping companies administer 

their corporate pension plans. I met 

my husband, Brad, in Portland (he is originally 

from Park City, UT). He was transferred 

(by his employer, Albertson’s) to Denver, CO, 

where we lived for one short year. During this 

period I worked for another benefits administration 

company, located in Boulder, CO. 

One year later we moved to Bentonville, AR, 

when Brad was offered a job with Sam’s Club. 

We have called Arkansas home for 15 years 

now. 

Bentonville is where the corporate headquarters 

for Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club are located. 

Brad is currently Divisional Director for Sam’s. 

After moving to Arkansas, I was ready for a real 

change of pace (and what a change of pace it 

was), so I went back to school at the U of A for 

a Masters Degree in Horticulture. I liked flowers 

... After graduating, I worked for Wal-Mart 

as a Horticulture Buyer until our first son was 

born. My title has been Stay-At-Home Mom 

ever since. Who would have thought I needed 

to go back to school to change diapers and take 

care of kids! Oh, well. Our older son, Nicholas, 

is now 10 years old and in the fourth grade, and

in the first grade. They are both great students 

and very active in sports. I keep busy volunteering 

at the boys’ school, chauffeuring them 

to their sports activities, keeping up with their 

busy social calendars and taking care of their

As a family, we enjoy traveling, boating, 

snow skiing and attending Razorback (U of 

A) football games. My personal interests 

are antiquing, gardening, reading, walking, doing 

cross-stitch projects, and I am also learning 

to play the guitar again (after 30 years). Life is 

good!

After graduation from West I went on to college 

at MSU, graduating in 1985 with a degree 

in Elementary Education. I worked at the 

KMart store in Mankato for 15 years, the last 

five years as Customer Service Assistant Manager. 

I left KMart in 1995 to pursue my dream 

of working with children. For the last 10 years 

I have been working at Golden Heart Childcare 

Center. I work with preschool children. I 

work with 4-5 year old children, preparing 

them for kindergarten. It is a challenging but 

fun vocation. 

There is no money in early education, 

so most people stick with it for the other

My husband Lon and I have been married for 

18 years. We are the parents of Sam, 13. He is 

an eighth grader at Dakota Meadows Middle 

School. He is active in Boy Scouts, working

an Eagle Scout. He is an OA member-scouting 

honor society (peer elected). He also is active 

in church choir, bell choir and is taking trumpet 

and guitar lessons. Yes, we are very proud 

of him. Our other members of the family 

include our dog Daisy-a five year old 3.6 pound 

Yorkie and a 3-year-old calico cat-Mittens. 

We still live in our little starter home in Skyline, 

not far from my parents. My husband is 

in love with the city of Las Vegas (weird for a 

tax accountant) and plans to move there when

home to Skyline!! I may move with him—as 

long as we can still come back to the beautiful 

winters here in Minnesota! OK, I’m kidding 

about the winters part—I hate the cold! I’m

door to me (although we go days without seeing 

each other—only a wave as we drive by.) 

My parents live in the same neighborhood as 

well, and my older brother and family live in 

Eagan. We usually plan two trips there (Vegas) 

annually. Once in December with Sam and

I was just thinking back to the last reunion 

when I was pregnant with our second child! 

Kelly is now 4, and just started pre-school. 

How time flies. She has a partner in crime, 

Jack, who is 6 years old. They are pretty good 

pals. Things are still pretty easy at this age, 

nothing a Barbie or Spider Man Band-Aid can’t 

take care of. Little kids, little problems, big 

kids, big problems! Sometimes I wish I could 

freeze them at this age, they are so cute in what 

they come up with. 

Jim and I will be celebrating our 10-year wedding 

anniversary this year, a record for both 

of us! As for hobbies and interests, they pretty 

much center on the kids. I think I have seen 

every animated movie since “Toy Story.” I did 

manage to do one triathlon this summer, which 

was my big accomplishment. 

I’m currently working in Eagan at Lockheed 

Martin in the Production Operations/Material 

Planning and Control area. Jim is at APA 

Cables and Networks, selling telecommunications 

equipment. Two interesting perspectives: 

“If you sell it, I could make it” or “If you could 

make it, I could sell it.” I’m not sure we will 

ever know, but it is fun trying to figure it out.

Now that I have a son, Peter, who is a sophomore 

in high school, it makes me realize that 

it truly has been quite a while since we graduated. 

He caught a touchdown pass in his first 

game this year and it made me proud. Although 

I’m not one of those obnoxious parents 

who screams and yells at sporting events, we 

sometimes live vicariously through our kids’ 

successes or failures. 

Life, for the most part, has been good. The old 

adage of work hard and play hard fits pretty 

well. I have been busy as a practicing attorney 

for 18 years now, which also amazes me.

I am now living in St. Cloud, which is a lot

We moved back from Denver after 

seven years because we missed the insects, the 

snowy Aprils and cheerful people. Oh, yeah, 

and I hated the Broncos.

I will take you back to September 2, 1985: 

The first day of medical school I vowed to my 

classmate, Paul Krabbenhoft, that I was there 

to concentrate on my studies, and that I would 

not be distracted by dating. Later that day I 

met Lynn, another fellow student, and we got 

married in 1988. By the way, Paul was the best 

man, Brian McLaughlin was a groomsman and 

Chris and Carrie Eggert were part of the string 

quartet (go Jefferson Elementary!) 

We did our residency in Denver and worked 

out there for awhile. It never did seem like 

home, though. Now I work at St. Cloud Hospital. 

Four years ago a few of us started the 

Hospitalist program. We take care of patients 

who are admitted to the hospital. I love it. 

Lynn works part-time as an internist. We have 

three outrageously terrific kids. 

When I’m not being a doc or a dad, I like playing 

my violin and mandolin. My son plays 

guitar, and we played together for a wedding. I 

still like classical music, but I also like jazz, folk 

and especially bluegrass (with apologies to Mr. 

Gertjejansen). 

To stay in shape, I run and play racquetball, 

but I haven’t wrestled since March 12, 1980. 

So much for wrestling as a lifetime sport. Oh, 

and I love to golf. 

In conclusion (I dedicate the preceeding transitional 

statement to Jean Jirak), I am really 

going to enjoy seeing all of you at Homecoming 

and the reunion.

firist in on-base percentage; he also threw out 

Chris Ward, an East player, at second base who 

had just been in the newspaper for a large

reunion. I’ve seen a lot of classmates whose 

children are the same ages at these events. 

I’m looking into finding some hobbies of my 

own too, though I don’t think that I’m finished 

watching sporting events yet. I have been 

thinking lately that I would really like to learn 

how to ride horses. I would also like to volunteer 

some time working with the Humane 

Society and/or maybe Habitat for Humanity. 

Maybe take some classes at SCTC or MSU. I 

would also like to go white water rafting. Who 

knows where life will take me? Just like Nike 

says, just “do it”. 

I took my son Trevor out to New York and Bos-

ton for his graduation gift. We took a Sports 

and Travel Tour and watched the Twins play 

baseball against the New York Yankees at Yankee 

Stadium and the Boston Red Sox at Fenway 

Park. We also visited Cooperstown for the 

Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. We visited 

the Statue of Liberty, took the subway, and saw 

a Broadway play, “Mama Mia” (that brought 

back memories with all the ABBA songs). We 

walked to Time Square, Grand Central Station 

and the Empire State Building (our hotel was 

only blocks away). Four years before I took my 

daughter to Cancun where we went horse back 

riding and snorkeling. I wonder where I will 

visit in five more years when I get to take my 

son Britt somewhere for his graduation.

All in all, it has been a pretty good 25 years 

since leaving West and packing off to the U of 

M. I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical 

Engineering, developed some lifelong friends 

and met my beautiful wife there. After college 

we lived in Minneapolis working and hanging 

out. I have been back in Mankato since 1992 

and after a few years of asking myself what the 

hell I am I doing here we began to integrate 

back into the community. Having our son 

Noah changed our viewpoint a lot too, and as I 

thought back—this really wasn’t a bad a place 

to grow up. From what I have been reading 

about Mankato lately, I guess others agree, as 

Mankato was rated in the top 10 places to raise 

children. 

I came back to Mankato to join the family business 

that I now own with my father and I am

happy to say that since 1992 we have grown 

every year; we sell our products internationally 

and we just moved into our new facility 

on Third Avenue. It has been challenging and 

rewarding to build up this small business that 

started by cleaning small country elevators 

that today is shipping equipment to Turkey, 

Brazil and New Zealand. What a cool time we 

live in, that from little Mankato we can communicate 

and ship anywhere in the world. You 

really don’t have to live in busy congested city 

to operate a world-class organization anymore. 

So if you’re looking for a change, come on back. 

Mankato’s not so bad after all. 

We are living in West Mankato, in Judge Morris’ 

old house which is just down the block from 

Dave Barnes’ old house. It’s a great location 

and house even though I think I have just about 

replaced or rebuilt everything on it at least 

once. When round two comes around I think I 

will let the new owners worry about that. Between 

remodeling projects we try to get out 

and do some motorcycling, four-wheeling and 

snowmobiling. There of course is football, basketball 

and skiing, too. Kind of cool to go out 

to the mountain that is Mount Kato with my 

son and remember all of the time spent avoiding 

Ski Patrols as packs of us terrorized the 

slopes. I know some of classmates are now Ski 

Patrols and are now doing the chasing. We are 

also the proud owners of one and a third horses 

that keeps my equestrian wife busy. She has 

started showing again after a long hiatus and is 

enjoying it immensely (and winning, too). One 

was free (Yeah, right. No such thing as a free 

horse) and the other one third is a retired race 

horse who was 99 to 1 at the beginning of his 

last race. I think his career change into hunting 

and jumping will be good for him. My son and 

I keep asking her where the motor is on those 

hay burner things. 

My life did not end up as I planned in 1980, 

but I sure wouldn’t change it now. I have been 

lucky enough travel to many places around 

the US and Europe, but it is always nice to 

come home. Looking forward to hearing other 

stories of life after graduation.

I will be celebrating our 23rd anniversary on

Carol and I also bartend at the Midwest Wireless

We built a new home in Stonehenge in 1998 

and continue to work on the yard and finishing

involved in basketball and baseball at Mankato 

East. We spend a lot of time going to games.

He also played traveling baseball the last five

Kim and I were married in 1991, we were living 

in Spencer, IA, moved to Prior Lake, MN, during 

the Halloween Blizzard of 1991 and then

I am an Account Manager with Parker Hannifin 

Corporation Oildyne Division a manufacturer 

of compact fluid power systems. Some

Exmark, Stryker Medical and Piper Aircraft to 

name a few. 

Kim and I are very involved in our kids’ schedules, 

as they dictate ours. Ellie has recently

signed up to play trombone, she is also involved 

in softball, dance, theater, downhill skiing 

and golf. Erin is the soccer kid, currently in 

a fall competitive league ending in October just 

in time to start indoor winter league along with 

dance, downhill skiing and golf. 

With my career I spend a fair amount of time 

traveling, Kim does a great job running the 

household, but we greatly enjoy traveling together 

as a family. This past winter we enjoyed 

our first family road trip out west to Utah (skiing) 

and Las Vegas. Kids traveled well, DVD’s 

and CD’s helped pass the time. We are reving 

up for March 2006 trip to the Big Island of 

Hawaii for 10 days. 

My interests have changed and evolved over 

the years, my passion has become GOLF. 

We play a lot as a family, but I manage to get 

some rounds in with the guys. I have been going 

down to Texas for about 10 years on a fall 

golf trip, next one is in October! We live in a 

great neighborhood and really enjoy our neighbors.

I retired from the Army Reserve last fall, as a

to retire the Army sent me on a nine-month 

vacation, 2003-2004, to a lovely place called 

Afghanistan. Boy, was that fun! Mary and 

the kids really hung in there. I was especially 

proud of Eric for stepping up and helping out 

Mom with the stuff Dad normally did. Sami 

kept me entertained with e-mails and letters. 

Mary is a Dental Hygiene Instructor at Rochester 

Community and Technical College and 

works in private practice in the area also. I’ve 

been lucky enough to be married to her for 19 

years now. 

Eric will be a junior at Owatonna High School 

this fall. He’s into 4-wheelers, snowmobiles, 

lacrosse, hunting and fishing. Samantha will be 

an eighth grader and likes playing piano, flute, 

guitar and running cross country and track. 

We spend family time riding bike, camping, 

snowmobiling and traveling.

What am I up to now? Five-foot-7-1/2 inches

evenings at basketball practices and hot

games. Favorite food is McDonalds on

John and I have lived in Arizona for the past 

20 years. I miss Mankato with its green foliage 

and the leaves changing in fall, but not the 

cold weather or the mesquitoes. My two boys, 

Weston and Trenton, keep me on the run. I 

wanted to be a soccer Mom but my boys have 

made me into a Football, Lacrosse and Track 

Mom. We love to travel and have been to many 

wonderful places around the world and hope 

to see others. This last summer we visited 

Northern Europe (without the kids) and had a 

fantastic time. I work in the Energy business 

selling commodity electricity to retail custom-
