This EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION DOCUMENT, Form I-688B,was introduced in November 1989 and issued to aliens who weregranted permission to be employed in the U.S. for a specific periodof time. The card was produced with a Polaroid process and hadinterlocking gold lines across the front.Form I-688BIn January 1997, INS began issuing a new EMPLOYMENTAUTHORIZATION CARD, Form I-766. The front of the cardbore the photograph, fingerprint and signature of the bearer. Thereverse contained a standard bar code, magnetic strip and a twodimensionalbar code which contains unique card, biographic andbiometric data.Form I-766 (1997)13
The EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION CARD, Form I-766 wasupdated in May 2004. It incorporated the DHS seal but is otherwisesimilar to the previous version, with a photograph, fingerprint andsignature of the bearer beneath a holograph film. The reverse sidedisplays a standard bar code, magnetic strip and a two-dimensionalbar code containing encoded data. The card was revised again inAugust 2004, using a full frontal face photograph instead of thethree quarter face position.
