International Journal Of Computational Engineering Research (<strong>ijcer</strong>online.com) Vol. 2 Issue. 84. MethodologyTwo selected models of back plates of impeller of a blower are investigated both experimentally and by numericalsimulation for. The blank from which these back plates are formed have the dimensions as as given in TABLE 1. The material ofback plates is mild steel IS 2062 grade. A commercial FE code ANSYS 12.0 structural was used to simulate the deep drawingoperation. The thickness of drawn portion is t f .The punch is pushed into the die cavity, simultaneously transferring the specific shape of the punch and the die to thesheet metal blank, thus forming a conical cup. The basic shape of punch is frustum of a cone. The back plate is drawn from theblank in a press by the force of the punch. The experimental set up is shown in fig 3.Table 1 Parameters of experimental set upSr. No. Description Symbol Model No.1ModelNo.21 Top outer diameter of Punch D PT 450 mm 370 mm2 Bottom outer diameter of Punch D PB 251 mm 206 mm3 Top inner diameter of Die d DT 455.76 379.34 mm4 Bottom inner diameter of Die d DB 256.76 215.34 mm5 Blank Thickness before drawing t i 3.06 mm 5.05 mm6 Depth of Drawing h 67.25 mm 80.54 mm7 Blank outer diameter D BO 930 mm 540 mm8 Blank inner diameter D BI 214 mm 145 mm9 Punch nose angle α 30 degree 43 degreeFig. 3: Diagram of experimental set up5.
