Bacillussubtilis is a non-pathogenic bacterium found ubiquitously in theenvironment. However, genomic DNA sequencing of the specificisolate of Bacillus subtilis discovered within the New York Postand Tom Brokaw anthrax powders reveals that it is geneticallydistinct from over seventy (70) isolates of Bacillus subtilistested to date. Analysis of the Bacillus subtilis from the NewYork Post and Tom Brokaw envelopes revealed that these twoisolates are identical.RMR-1029USAMRIID is a military research institute located onthe base of Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland.
