COMPUTER STUDIES 0420 <strong>IGCSE</strong> 2009SECTION 2Analysis of the systemThe aim of this section of the syllabus is to cover the main principles of the analysis of the systemwhich include aspects of fact finding, feasibility study, analysis, design, documentation, methods ofimplementation, evaluation and maintenance. This is achieved partly through the study of<strong>com</strong>puter applications, in particular the methods by which a problem has been analysed to lead toa successful solution for the user, and partly through practical work.Systems analysisCandidates should be able to describe the main steps involved in systems analysis and they shouldbe able to use charts and diagrams. They should be able to apply the principles of systems analysisin their coursework projects.Identification of the problem andstating it briefly.Deciding and stating specificout<strong>com</strong>es which are desired inthe solution of a particularproblem.Analysing the flow of informationand data in existing (<strong>com</strong>puter ormanual) solutions.Evaluation of existing solutions.Consideration of alternativesolutions.A variety of problems/solutions may be examined beginning withthe relatively simple and proceeding to the more <strong>com</strong>plex. Theaim should be to develop a feeling for standard stages whichwould be appropriate during systems analysis.The ability to describe a problem and its solution in simple nontechnicalterms should be developed in a similar way.9www.ourpgs.<strong>com</strong>
