DesignLoadAverage Monthly TemperatureEnergySavingsEnergySavingsAPR MAY JUN JUL AUG SEP OCTPREEVA ® is More Efficient Year RoundThe PREEVA Series more accurately matches the load, savesenergy, and provides consistent space comfort levels.FullThermal Efficiencies with Gas Input TurndownOperationPREEVA ® @2/3 OperationPREEVA ® @1/3 OperationCooling Advantages:Knowing that 95% of the time units run at off-design conditions, why settle for units that don’t have the ability to providemultiple cooling stages? The red curve in the graph (above left) reflects the averagemonthly temperatures which correlate with the building loadrequirements. With conventional systems of this type, you typicallyrun at full load over the cooling demand, which is representedby the blue Design Load line at the top of the graph. When the PREEVA Series is matched with an “M” SeriesCondensing Unit, you have up to three stages (33%, 67% and100%) to provide the ability to efficiently match the buildingcooling needs. By providing this multiple stage capability, youprovide more accurate space temperatures and save energy, asreflected by the shaded blue area in the graph. There is another advantage to the multiple stage capacityof the PREEVA Series. There is less on/off compressor cycling, which can lengthen equipment life.Thermal Efficiency80%PREEVA ® EfficiencyPREEVA ®EfficiencyConventional Heater Efficiency25% 40% 55% 70% 85% 100%Percentage of Full Gas Input RateHeating Advantages:The PREEVA Series is also superior to conventional heatingequipment. The red line in the graph (above right) shows the PREEVASeries heating efficiencies through a series of firing rates. Highefficiency (81%) is provided when the unit is at full rate. Thanksto some innovative advancements by the Reznor EngineeringTeam, the efficiencies remain high even when less than full rateis required.By operating at various firing rates, the right amount ofheating can be applied, matching the need, saving energy andproviding more even space temperatures for consistent comfortlevels. The blue line shows the heating efficiencies for a conventionalheating system if it could operate at a range of firingrates. The shaded area in between represents the improved efficienciesrealized with the PREEVA Series. Improved efficienciesare reflected in lower operating costs.PREEVA Heating Advantage:Comparison of Possible Fuel (Natural Gas) Savings for Selected CitiesVersus Conventional Heating SystemsPage 14 Form C-PREEVAOperated 24 hours - 7 days per WeekDischarge AirTemperature Rise toMaintain 75°F DischargeTemperatureTotal Annual Hours of GasInput Turndown RatesPercent of Annual GasInput Turndown RatesPercentage of Annual FuelSavings versusConventional HeaterAnnual Dollars Saved for aPDH 300 based on NaturalGas Cost of $1.25 /ThermOperated 6 AM to 5 PM - 7 Days per WeekDischarge AirTemperature Rise toMaintain 75°F DischargeTemperatureTotal Annual Hours of GasInput Turndown RatesPercent of Annual GasInput Turndown RatesPercentage of Annual FuelSavings versusConventional HeaterAnnual Dollars Saved for aPDH 300 based on NaturalGas Cost of $1.25 /ThermCityCityBoston 70°F 4,315 52% 12% $1,338 Boston 60°F 2,093 54% 10% $580Fargo 105°F 3,801 47% 11% $1,113 Fargo 105°F 1,938 46% 11% $572Memphis 60°F 2,971 44% 11% $890 Memphis 60°F 1,316 46% 12% $413Minneapolis 100°F 3,661 45% 11% $1,087 Minneapolis 95°F 1,706 47% 11% $534Pittsburgh 80°F 3,818 45% 11% $769 Pittsburgh 75°F 1,999 54% 12% $560San Diego 40°F 3,462 41% 10% $944 San Diego 35°F 1,962 45% 11% $533

DescriptionEvaporative cooling provides cooling based on two principles:(1) water in direct contact with a moving airstream willevaporate if the droplets have long enough exposure; and (2)that evaporation will lower the temperature of the airstream. This evaporative cooler uses rigid cellulose media to retain themoisture providing the airstream with time for evaporation. Usingevaporative cooling when cooling needs are limited will helpto reduce the cost of traditional cooling, or may also be used as aprecooler in conjunction with a traditional cooling coil to reducethe tonnage required for a specific application.Evaporative cooling module is factory assembled to ModelRDH, and located upstream from the blower cabinet. Any additionaloptional modules (i.e. cooling coil cabinet or mixing boxcabinet) will be positioned between the evaporative cooling moduleand the blower cabinet. The thermally protected water pump features a heavy duty, fan cooled motor with moisture proof windings along with acorrosion resistant one piece motor shaft. The snap-out base allowsfor simple access to the impeller for easy cleaning. Thepump is wired to allow for manual or automatic thermostatswitching to call for cooling. Standard equipment includes anelectrically activated, pump-protector, float switch to ensure thatan adequate amount of water is in the reservoir prior to the pumpbeing energized. An automatic fill float and constant bleed linemaintains the proper reservoir level while allowing the appropriatebleed-off to prevent accumulation of scale deposits includingcalcium and magnesium salts. All water-carrying componentsare designed from plastics to prohibit corrosion andextend the life of the cooler components. The optional AquaSaver water metering system is designedto decrease water usage by automatically regulating water flowby time and temperature and to decrease maintenance requirementsby eliminating the pump and float switches.MODULE for EVAPORATIVE COOLERStandard Features• Easily accessible, self-cleaning, high-efficiency evaporative mediaof 6” rigid cellulose media• Thermally protected water pump• Electrical motor-protection float switch with stainless steel ball, floatand arm• PVC float valve and bleed line• 115 volt supply voltage• Terminal block wiring• Overflow and drain connections in cabinet bottom• 300 Series Grade stainless steel water reservoir• Pre-coat white gloss finish, 60 gloss minimum and RAL 9001, meetsASTM B117 specification for salt spray for 1,000 hoursOptional Features• Stainless steel cabinet• 12” rigid cellulose media, 6” or 12” rigid glass fiber media fire-ratedto UL900, Class II• 208 or 230 volt power supply capability• Automatic fill and drain kit• Microprocessor based AquaSaver water metering system• Water hammer arrestor• 1” or 2 “ metal pre-filtersEvaporative Cooler Technical DataRDH Model Size 75 100 125 150 175 200 225 250 300 350 400ACoolingEffectiveness6" Media12" Media68%90%MaximumCFM 1,406 1,875 2,344 2,813 3,281 3,750 3,950 4,688 5,625 6,563 7,000EvaporativeCooling Airflow M 3 /hr (2,389) (3,186) (3,982) (4,779) (5,574) (6,371) (6,711) (7,965) (9,557) (11,150) (11,893)Maximum FaceFPM 500Velocitymm/s (2,540)Pump HP Pump & Float1/50 HPAmps @115/1 Water Supply 0.92Media Face(Total)DimensionsSq Ft29.25 x 31.56.429.25 x 41.58.536 x 31.57.936 x 47.751236 x 55.7514Page 20 Form C-PREEVA

COOLING COILMODULE WITH DX ORCHILLED WATER COILDescription• Reznor Coil Selection Softwareis downloadable fromwww.RezSpec.comCooling Coil ModuleOptionsPREEVA units have a wide selection of factory installed custom designed DX and ChilledWater coils tailor made to the application, from 100% outside air in severe climates to 100%return air in mild climates. Coil application is designed by Reznor Software such as RezQuoteor RezPro ® Toolbox. The performance data is in compliance with ARI Standard 410. Design/Performance Data Sheets are generated by the software or are available from your ReznorRepresentative by submitting the Request Form found later in this catalog. The double wall insulated draw-through coil cabinet is factory assembled to the systemblower cabinet. Both DX and Chilled Water Coil cabinets are available. Both sides of thecooling coil section have easily removable door panels for routine coil inspection and cleaning. The removable stainless steel drain pan has an exterior 1” NPT connection.Primary considerations are:1) Sizing the PREEVA unit to meet both heating and cooling requirements.2) Deciding on condenser capacity and staging.3) Specifying cooling controlsApproximate cooling airflow ranges and capacity ranges (sea level at 45° suction and 45°chilled water) are shown in the DX and Chilled Water Performance Range Tables. Somewhathigher or lower capacities will result from changes in elevation, operating temperatures, flowrates, etc.DX Coil Single CircuitCircuiting 50-50 Dual Circuit1/3 - 2/3 Split CircuitCoil Casing Galvanized SteelStainless SteelRefrigerant R22, R134a, R407c,CoilMaterialCoilCopper Tube withAluminum FinsCopper Tube with CopperFinsElectroFin PolymericCoating CoatingOptions R410a Cabinet Double wall w/ insulationFilters 1", 2", or 4" Pleated Double wall with high1" Permanent density insulation1" DisposableElectroFin is a registered trademark of AST ElectroFin, Inc.Unit Sizing Example An outdoor makeup air unit is required for 3500 SCFM of continuous ventilation (100%outside air during occupied hours) for an auto repair shop. Outdoor design is 18 ºF Winter and100/78 DB/WB ºF Summer, elevation near sea level. A 55 ºF discharge temperature is desired(no reheat) whenever the cooling circuit is enabled (above 85 ºF outdoor ambient) and a 65 ºFdischarge temperature is desired whenever the outside air temperature is below 65 ºF.Looking at the heating side, 177 MBH output is needed to raise 3000 SCFM from 18 ºF to65 ºF. Looking at the Technical Data Table for Model RDH, an RDH-225 has an output of 182MBH and a cfm range of 1688 to 4219.Running an enthalpy equation shows that reducing 3500 SCFM from 100/78 to 55/55 willrequire 168.5 MBH sensible and 108.7 MBH latent, or 277.2 MBH of total cooling. Lookingat the DX Coil Performance Range Table (on the following page), maximum recommendedcooling air flow (500 fpm face) is 2917 SCFM for the RDH-225. Upsizing to an RDH-250allows up to 4892 SCFM, and the maximum coil output at 95/75 is 321 MBH at 500 fpm. Itshould be possible to meet the cooling requirement with the RDH-250, and in fact, the coilselection software shows that a 6 row/12 fin coil for the RDH-250 will produce the requiredcooling output at 100/78.The important thing to note is, in this case, the cooling requirement governs the RDH sizeselection, not the unit blower or heating capacity.Page 26 Form C-PREEVA

Coil Selection SoftwareThe Reznor Coil Selection Software (DX selection, shown above) that is part of RezQuoteand RezPro ® Toolbox packages will optimally design heating and cooling coils for your specificapplication for all Reznor models utilizing custom coils.Exact design and performance are shown on coil data sheets output by Reznor coil selectionsoftware. You may request or download a copy of the software or submit the coil requestform (found at the end of this section on cooling) to your Reznor Representative, who can thenprovide you with a detailed coil run.DX Coil Controls andCircuitsDX coils are available for one, two, or three stage operation. Two or three stage operationis generally recommended for makeup air, where the load on the coil may vary considerably.PREEVA digital control options DG5 and DG6 are ideally suited to sense makeup air dischargetemperature and provide two or three stages of capacity, as required. Up to 3:1 cooling turndownmakes hot gas bypass unnecessary or keeps hot gas bypass operation to a minimum. Two stage DX cooling operation is accomplished by two equal capacity interlaced coilcircuits for connection to a two stage condensing unit or two equal capacity single stagecondensers. Three stage operation is accomplished by two unequal interlaced circuits, withapproximately 1/3 of the coil tubes on the first circuit and 2/3 of the coil tubes on the second. Two condensing units of unequal capacity are used – one 5 ton and one 10 ton for example. The first circuit is connected to the smaller condenser and the second to the larger. The 3 stagedigital cooling control system in the PREEVA will activate the first condenser on first stage. Onsecond stage, the first condenser is deactivated and the larger second condenser is activated. On third stage, both condensers are activated. The 3 stage digital cooling control (OptionDG1, DG2, DG5, or DG6) in the PREEVA actually makes 3 separate staging relays, so otherlogics are configurable. TXV’s, liquid line solenoids, any desired hot gas bypass valves, andcondensing units are provided by others. Alternate analog heating controls are available forcooling controls by others or heating/cooling by room thermostat only. Coil Design – DX CoilsCoil Design – Chilled WaterCoilsIndividual coils are custom designed and internally circuited by Reznor coilselection/design software to optimize for the exact conditions specified. Variablesare:External Circuiting: Single (one stage), Dual 50-50 (2 stage), Dual 1/3-2/3 (3 stage)Refrigerants: R22, R134a, R407c, or R410aRows: 2, 3, 4, or 6Fins per Inch: 8, 10, 12, or 14Tube OD:Fin Height:1/2” (standard) or 3/8” (low load)20”, 22.5”, or 25” (75 to 150 sizes)30”, 32.5”, or 35” (175 to 400A sizes)Internal Circuiting: The number of internal coil circuits is thermodynamicallyoptimized, but circuits may be increased to decrease refrigerant pressure drop ordecreased to increase refrigerant velocity. Refrigerant velocity should be above 1000fpm and refrigerant pressure drop should be less than 8 psi. When coil loads arelight and refrigerant velocity would be less than 1100 fpm with 1/2” tube, 3/8” tubeis used to improve refrigerant velocity . Note that higher refrigerant velocities areavailable with 20”, 25”, 30” and 35” height coils and lower refrigerant pressure dropwith optimal thermodynamic efficiency are available with 22.5” and 32.5” heightcoils (due to internal circuiting). In general, preference is given to coils having thelowest air pressure drop, which favors taller fin heights.Individual coils are custom designed and internally circuited by Reznor coilselection/design software to optimize for the exact conditions specified. Variablesare:Refrigerants: Water, Ethylene Glycol(%), or Propylene Glycol(%)Rows: 4 or 6Fins per Inch: 6, 8, 10, 12, or 14Tube OD: 1/2Fin Height: 25” (75 to 150 sizes) or 35” (175 to 400A sizes)Internal Circuiting:Quarter, Half, Three Quarter, or Single serpentineQuarter circuit coils are used for low flow rates and have high pressure drops.Full circuit coils are for high flow rates and have low pressure drops. Half and ThreeQuarter circuit coils are in between. The best circuiting for a given application canbe optimized based on flow rate, pressure drop and output requirements.Chilled water coil performance is significantly diminished by glycol, higherpercentages causing lower performance. The unit size/coil face may have to be increasedto achieve adequate cooling performance with glycol in some cases. HEATING AND HEATING/COOLING CONTROLSFX05 SEQUENCE OF OPERATIONINTRODUCTIONAvailable with the new Reznor PREEVA indirect-fired seriesis an optional factory installed and pre-programmed completedigital heating and cooling master control. Control optionsDG1, DG2, DG5, and DG6 come compete with a JohnsonControl’s FX-05 advanced controller and room command moduleproviding total unit control.Option DG1is programmed for 2-stage gas heat & 3-stage cooling with a space temperaturecontroller (45 to 95°F)Option DG2is programmed for electronic modulatinggas heat for 4:1 turndown capacity onNatural gas (2.5:1 on Propane gas) & 3-stage cooling with a space temperaturecontroller (45 to 95°F)Option DG5is programmed for 2-stage gas heat & 3-stage cooling with a discharge airtemperature controller that can adjust thedischarge air ± 6 °F from setpoint.Option DG6is programmed for electronic modulating gasheat for 4:1 turndown capacity on Natural gas(2.5:1 on propane gas) & 3-stage cooling witha discharge air temperature controller that canadjust the discharge air ± 6 °F from setpoint. All control options include a separate room command modulefrom which the unit can be turned on or off, set to heat, ventor cool mode has an unoccupied override push button. The pushbuttonwhen activated will immediately command the unit totemporarily lock the controller to the occupied setpoints for 60minutes. Additionally, the advanced controller can be fitted witha real 7-day time clock card for energy savings and better managementof the specific application or a serial communicationcard for compatibility with either the LON or N2open BASprotocols.KEY FACTORY DEFAULT SETPOINTS FOR ALL DG OPTIONS• Occupied Heating Setpoint (HSP) is 68°F. Only operable when sliderswitch is in “heat” position• Occupied Cooling Setpoint (CSP) is 72°F. Only operable when sliderswitch is in “cool” position• Offset temperature setpoint (DB) is 2°F. Only operable when sliderswitch is in “auto” position• Unoccupied Heating Setpoint is the Occupied Heating setpoint minusthe adjustable default value of 10°F or 58°F.• Unoccupied Cooling setpoint is the Occupied Cooling setpoint plusthe adjustable default value of 10°F or 82°F.• Heating deadband (HDB) for occupied and unoccupied mode is adjustable, but factory set at 0°F.• Heating Prop Band (HPB) for occupied and unoccupied mode isadjustable, but factory set at 10°F.• Cooling Prop Band (CPB) for occupied and unoccupied mode isadjustable, but factory set at 10°F.• Boost Setting: When option CL56 (automatic room override thermostat)contacts are closed an immediate boost mode will add anadjustable amount (default 5°F) to the occupied heating setpointand subtracted from the occupied cooling setpoint to bring the spaceto the temperature setting of the thermostat. Boost is inoperable inthe Auto mode.• Second Stage Heat Energizing (SSH) is adjustable, but is factoryset at a default of 90% of the prop band or 9°F.• Second Stage Heating Disable (SSO) is adjustable, but is factoryset at a default of 5% of the prop band or 0.5°F.DG1 AND DG2 HEATING SEQUENCE OF OPERATIONAs noted above the controller comes complete with a simplepreprogrammed sequence of operation and factory set parametersthat are typical for most heating and cooling applications.Options DG1 and DG2 use the value at the room commandmodule dial as the heating setpoint, when the switch is set toheating only mode. It is used as the cooling setpoint when theswitch is set to cooling only mode. In the Auto Mode, thesetpoint dial is the point from which the value of the offset (± 2°F default) is added and subtracted to achieve the working heatingand working cooling setpoints. (For example: if the dial isset is at 72°F, with the value of the offset at 2°F, then the workingheating setpoint is 70°F and the working cooling setpoint is74°F. Either heating or cooling can occur when the switch is inthis mode.In a typical sequence of operation, with the module switchset to heating, the unit will initiate heating if the temperaturesensed in the space falls below the heating setpoint (HSP) andthe heating deadband (HDB). When this occurs on units withoption DG1, the ignition sequence is energized, as is the firstor low stage valve. If required, the second or high stage valvewill close at the SSH setting (default 90% of the prop band or9°F.) The second or high stage gas valve will open when theproportional band is below the SSO setting (default 5% of theprop band or 0.5°F). The first or low stage valve will openwhen the space is above the heating setpoint (HSP) plus theheating deadband (HDB).Using the defaults as an example, if the space temperaturedrops below 68°F, the first stage of the two stage gas valvewill be energized. If the space temperature continues to drop to 59°F, the secondstage will be energized. The second stage remains energized until the space temperaturereaches 67.5°F, then is de-energized.The first stage is de-energized when the space temperaturereaches the setpoint of 68°F.For units with option DG2, upon a call for heat the ignitionsequence is energized as is the safety valve ahead of themodulating valve. The analog output signal will allow the modulatinggas valve to fully open for 80 seconds to ensure properForm C- PREEVA Page 35

HEATING AND HEATING/COOLING CONTROLS (cont’d)FX05 SEQUENCE OF OPERATION (cont’d)burner ignition. The gas valve will then modulate to a position, linearly with the HSP and the HPB to maintain the spacetemperature on the room command module. For example, when the space temperature drops to 67°F,the modulating valve will be fully open for 80 secondsthen modulate to the minimum flow position (approximately6 VDC). If the temperature continues to drop to58°F, the valve would be in the full open position (approximately3 VDC). The modulating valve will de-energizewhen the space temperature reaches the heating setpoint.DG5 AND DG6 HEATING SEQUENCE OF OPERATIONAs noted above the controller comes complete with a simplepreprogrammed sequence of operation and factory set parametersthat are typical for most heating and cooling applications.Options DG5 and DG6 use the working setpoint value, definedas the heating setpoint (68°F default) plus or minus the settingof the room command module dial. The dial can change thedischarge air setpoint ± 6°F or from 62° to 74°F when usingthe default setting. In a typical sequence of operation, with the module switchset to heating, the unit will initiate heating if the discharge ductsensor temperature falls below the working setpoint temperatureand the heating deadband. When this occurs on units withoption DG5, the ignition sequence is energized, as is the firstor low stage valve. If required, the second or high stage valvewill close at the SSH setting (default 90% of the prop band or9°F.) The second or high stage gas valve will open when theproportional band is below the SSO setting (default 5% of theprop band or 0.5°F). The first or low stage valve will openwhen the discharge temperature is above the working setpointtemperature (HSP) plus the heating deadband (HDB).Using the defaults as an example, if the discharge temperaturedrops below 68°F, the first stage of the two-stagegas valve will be energized. If the discharge temperature continues to drop to 59°F, thesecond stage will be energized. The second stage remains energized until the dischargetemperature reaches 67.5°F then is de-energized.The first stage is de-energized when the discharge temperaturereaches the setpoint of 68°F.For units with option DG6, upon a call for heat the ignitionsequence is energized as is the safety valve ahead of themodulating valve. The analog output signal will allow the modulatinggas valve to fully open for 80 seconds to ensure properburner ignition. The gas valve will then modulate to a position, linearly with the HSP and the HPB to maintain the workingsetpoint temperature. For example, when the working discharge temperaturedrops to 67°F, the modulating valve will be fully open for80 seconds then modulate to the minimum flow position(approximately 6 VDC).If the temperature continued to drop to 58°F, the valvewould be in the full-open position (approximately 3 VDC).The modulating valve will de-energize when the dischargetemperature reaches the working heating setpoint.Page 36 Form C-PREEVADG1, DG2, DG5 AND DG6 COOLING SEQUENCE OF OP-ERATIONIn a typical sequence of operation, with the module switchset to cooling, the unit will initiate cooling if the space temperature(DG1 or DG2) or the discharge duct sensor temperature(DG5 or DG6) climbs above the cooling setpoint temperature(CSP) or the working cooling setpoint temperature intothe cooling prop band. At this point the stage one cooling isenergized when the space or discharge temperature reaches 10%of the cooling prop band. The second stage of cooling will beenergized when the temperature reaches 40% of the coolingprop band and third stage will be energized when the temperaturereaches 99% of the prop band. For example, if the working cooling setpoint on a DG5system (WCSP) is 72°F, Stage 1 cooling is energized whendischarge air temperature increases to 73°F (10% of the10°F CPB).Stage 2 is energized when space temperature increases to76°F (40% of the 10°F CPB).Stage 3 is energized when the space temperature increasesto 81.9°F (99% of the 10°F CPB).As the space temperature moves back towards WCSP, stage3 is de-energized at 40% call for cooling, stage 2 is deenergizedat 10% call for cooling, and stage 1 is de-energizedat 5%.Compressor Interstage Delay time and Compressor MinimumOn time are controlled by the built in time delay which isdefaulted at 240 seconds. This means that if stage 1 has justbegun, stage 2 cannot start for 240 seconds. Once stage 1 hasbegun, it must run for 240 seconds before it will be turned off.BLOWER MODES OF OPERATION• With the module switch set to the fan or vent position, the blowerwill run continuously, and heating and cooling modes cannot function.• When the unit is in the occupied mode and the switch is in eitherthe heat or cool mode, the blower will run continuously. In the unoccupiedmode, the fan will only run when there is a call for heatingor cooling.• Proof of fan operation is always monitored via the air-proving switch. If fan proof is lost for 3 seconds, the heating or cooling functionswill be shutdown.• If the mode switch is moved to the off position or the normal heatingor cooling cycle ends, the fan will run for a post-purge of 30seconds.SAFETY MODES OF OPERATION• If the controller’s discharge air or space sensor reads a temperaturevalue below 36°F for seven continuous minutes, the unit will stopall heating, cooling, or vent functions.• If the unit’s outdoor air sensor reads 68°F or below, mechanicalcooling will not function.• If the unit’s outdoor air sensor reads 62°F or above, heating will notfunction.
