36<strong>User</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> for <strong>Thresholds</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Classification</strong>sA flammable substance is classified as having a particular hazard classification if it meets the criteria set outin the table in Schedule 2 <strong>to</strong> the Hazardous Substances (<strong>Classification</strong>) Regulations 2001 for that hazardclassification.The classification schemes for the various subclasses of flammable substances are summarised in Table3.1.Note that in the case of subclass 4.1.2 (self-reactive flammable solids), if a substance does not meet thecriteria for a 4.1.2A, 4.1.2B, or 4.1.2C hazard classification, then a 4.1.2D classification applies, unlesssufficient data are provided that show that the substance meets the criteria for hazard classification 4.1.2E,4.1.2F, or 4.1.2G. With respect <strong>to</strong> the criteria in the Hazardous Substances (<strong>Classification</strong>) Regulations 2001for subclass 4.1.2, Test Series A–G refer <strong>to</strong> the tests for self-reactive substances <strong>and</strong> organic peroxides insections 21–27, respectively, of the UN Manual of Tests <strong>and</strong> Criteria.January 2012 EPA0109
