<strong>Carpe</strong> <strong>Diem</strong> Crew ProfileRyan Butterwick – Capta<strong>in</strong>United StatesRyan was raised <strong>in</strong> the mounta<strong>in</strong>s of Colorado and is an avid outdoors enthusiast. He grew up ski<strong>in</strong>g,hunt<strong>in</strong>g, horseback rid<strong>in</strong>g, golf<strong>in</strong>g, fish<strong>in</strong>g, sail<strong>in</strong>g and div<strong>in</strong>g. Whenever he gets a chance, you will f<strong>in</strong>d(or not f<strong>in</strong>d) him <strong>in</strong> the woods bow hunt<strong>in</strong>g. Ryan moved to the Cayman Islands <strong>in</strong> the early 90’s andspent a year as a SCUBA <strong>in</strong>structor before leav<strong>in</strong>g to work and travel extensively around the globe.Ryan has been onboard M/Y <strong>Carpe</strong> <strong>Diem</strong> for just over six years and truly loves his job. Ryan holds a1600 ton USCG masters license and is a certified PADI SCUBA <strong>in</strong>structor. He is always excited to sharehis passion for the sea and warmly welcomes you aboard “<strong>Carpe</strong> <strong>Diem</strong>”.Jason Avakian – ChefUnited StatesJason was born <strong>in</strong> Santa Barbara, California but moved “down island” at a young age so his fathercould pursue teach<strong>in</strong>g medic<strong>in</strong>e <strong>in</strong> the Caribbean. Jason completed an AOS degree <strong>in</strong> Cul<strong>in</strong>ary Arts atthe California Cul<strong>in</strong>ary Academy <strong>in</strong> 1997. S<strong>in</strong>ce then, he has logged more than 100 weeks experienceas a charter yacht chef and more than 50,000 miles <strong>in</strong> yacht deliveries. Although classically tra<strong>in</strong>ed,his cook<strong>in</strong>g now takes <strong>in</strong> the <strong>in</strong>fluences of the many cultures he has encountered on his travels. Hetakes pride <strong>in</strong> us<strong>in</strong>g only the very highest quality of produce, meat, poultry and seafood.Mike Lewis - First MateUnited StatesMike has a love for all th<strong>in</strong>gs water related. Mike is from Longmont, Colorado but developed his lovefor the ocean when he and his family moved to St. Croix. After ga<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g a degree <strong>in</strong> Bus<strong>in</strong>ess & Market<strong>in</strong>gfrom Mt. Sa<strong>in</strong>t Mary’s College, she headed to Annapolis and was <strong>in</strong>troduced to yacht<strong>in</strong>g. She has sixyears experience <strong>in</strong> the <strong>in</strong>dustry, primarily as a stewardess but she also spent a year with a lead<strong>in</strong>gbrokerage firm <strong>in</strong> Fort Lauderdale. In addition to her outstand<strong>in</strong>g service skills and warm personality,she has an excellent rapport with every guest. Hav<strong>in</strong>g worked on a large variety and size of yachts onboth sides of the Atlantic, she has wealth of knowledge and <strong>in</strong>sight <strong>in</strong>to what it takes to provide animpeccable level of service. He spent much ofhis teenage years sail<strong>in</strong>g the south coast of <strong>England</strong> both recreationally and as an <strong>in</strong>structor with theRoyal <strong>Yacht</strong><strong>in</strong>g Association. Follow<strong>in</strong>g his eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g degree, Ben capta<strong>in</strong>ed a small sail<strong>in</strong>g yacht ona passage from <strong>England</strong> to the Mediterranean. He has experience of both motor and sail<strong>in</strong>g yachts upto 170 feet, ga<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g the 200 ton Masters license and 3000 ton Chief Eng<strong>in</strong>eer’s license <strong>in</strong> the process.When not afloat, Ben is also <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> music production, ski<strong>in</strong>g and has promised to complete hispilot’s license one day.Jeff Verhalen – DeckhandUnited StatesJeff was born and raised <strong>in</strong> Dallas, Texas. He acquired a love for the open ocean when he moved to St.John for three years where he acquired his PADI SCUBA certificate. After return<strong>in</strong>g to the ma<strong>in</strong> land,Jeff worked <strong>in</strong> many f<strong>in</strong>e d<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g establishments where he was a top rated bartender/mixologist.Eager to comb<strong>in</strong>e his two favorite th<strong>in</strong>gs, the life of the ocean and travel<strong>in</strong>g, Jeff has found yacht<strong>in</strong>g tobe the perfect comb<strong>in</strong>ation and hasn’t looked back s<strong>in</strong>ce.Amy Stampfi – StewardessUnited StatesAmy is from a small town on the North Fork of Long Island. She graduated from Auburn University <strong>in</strong>Alabama with a Cultural Anthropology degree. After graduat<strong>in</strong>g, she moved to <strong>New</strong> York City whereshe worked <strong>in</strong> fashion and was relocated to Ch<strong>in</strong>a. After return<strong>in</strong>g to the U.S., she decided to followher passion for food and w<strong>in</strong>e. This led her to be a Restaurant Manager for eight years. His charter and commercial experience <strong>in</strong>clude the East Coast of the U.S., theBahamas, Turks and Caicos, Panama and Costa Rica. In his free time, Glenn enjoys spend<strong>in</strong>g time withhis 9 year old daughter, Hannah, bike rid<strong>in</strong>g, cook<strong>in</strong>g and watch<strong>in</strong>g movies.Tyler Pr<strong>in</strong>c<strong>in</strong>skyUnited StatesTyler has been <strong>in</strong> the sport fish <strong>in</strong>dustry for four years however, he has been fish<strong>in</strong>g his entire life.
