potato varieties of Potato Research and DevelopmentStation Targu Secuiesc had been homologated.Materials and MethodsAll varieties are obtained by sexuat hybridizationfollowed by individual clonal selection, according tothe classical scheme of potato breeding – 12 years 3 .The main steps of working method were:-Established of genitors according to physiological andtechnological qualities of tubers with destination forprocessing;-Sexuat hybridization, followed by all steps: seedlings,vegetative populations, descendants, comparative cropsfor completion (3 years in the network of research unitsand 3 years in the network of National Institute for testingand Registration of Varieties / ISTIS) and selection formaintaining in the field of clonal selection on over 1000m a.s.l. (Red Water);-Homologation, obtaining license and registration inthe National List of Cultivated Varieties.All three mentioned varieties have a high yieldcapacity, have a starch content over 18%, are resistingto potato cyst nematodes (Globodera rostochiensis),and black wart (Synchitrium endobioticum) andviruses. The starch content and processing quality weredetermined in the laboratories of SCDC TarguSecuiesc, resistance to potato cyst nematodes atFagaras Centre, resistance to black wart at PojorataCentre Suceava and resistance to viruses at virologyLaboratory (I.N.C.D.C.S.Z. Brasov).Results and DiscussionsPotato variety COVALGenitors (BOBR X SUPER)Morphological characters: Tubers have round –oval shape. Color of skin and pulp is yellow. Stems areerect. Leafs are semi compact with middle size foliols,green clear. Flowers are white and big.Physiological characteristics: The vegetationperiod is 90 – 100 days (middle late variety). It isresistant to PVY and nematodes (Globoderarostochiensis) and middle tolerant to late blight(Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary).Culinary quality: It has a good culinary quality(group B). It is recommended for consumption duringautumn and winter.Yield capacity; It has a high yield capacity (47.8t/ha).Zoning: Coval variety is recommended for veryfavorable zones of potato production.Potato variety REDSECGenitors (M.P.I. 61-516-20 X CERTO)Morphological characters: Tubers have roundshape. Color of skin is red and color of pulp is yellow.Stems are middle to big size and are semi erect. Leafs 29
are semi compact with big folios, green clear. Flowersare white reddish and big.Physiological characters: The vegetation periodare 100 – 110 days and this variety belonging to middlelate varieties. It is resistant to PVY and tolerant to lateblight (Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary).Culinary quality: It has a good culinary quality(group B). It is recommended for consumption duringautumn and winter.Yield capacity; It has a high yield capacity (44.3t/ha).Zoning: Redsec variety is recommended for allfavorable zones of potato production.Potato variety MILENIUMGenitors (FANAL X OMEGA)Morphological characters: Tubers have round –oval shape with shallow eyes. Color of skin and pulp isyellow. Stems are tall. Leafs have middle size foliols,green clear. Flowers are white.Physiological characters: The vegetation periodare 100 days and this variety belonging to middle latevarieties. It is resistant to PVY and sensitive to lateblight (Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary). It isresistant to cist nematodes (Globodera rostochiensis).Culinary quality: It has 18.53% starch contentand belongs to C group. It is recommended to winterconsumption and processing.Yield capacity; It has a high yield capacity (38.1t/ha).Zoning: Milenium variety is recommended for allfavorable zones of potato production.30
