The unique venue was transformed into an Athenian Escape ! Thestudents felt as if they were in ancient Greece. After Prom!THS Parents Who Care Organization hosted a very exciting After Prom. 327 students and manyparent chaperones met at the high school following the Prom and were taken by bus to Dave & Buster’sin Hilliard for an all-night party with food, music, and unlimited gaming. It was a very different AfterProm this year and everyone had a great time. Throughout the evening, prize drawings were done whichconsisted of gift cards to area businesses, tickets to amusement parks, baseball games and fantasticgrand prizes. Those prizes were purchased with money donated by area businesses and parents ofstudents. They included a new laptop computer, an IPad, ITouch, GPS, TVs, printers and etc. JoeJohnson and <strong>Tipp</strong> Foundation donated $500 scholarships and the lucky winners were Daniel Pfister andJustin Roberts. <strong>Tipp</strong> Monroe Fire Association donated a $100 Scholarship and it went to Katy Fahey.To view more after prom pictures log into <strong>Tipp</strong>funphotos.smugmug.com and click on school activitiesand after prom 2011. A huge thank you goes out to parents and area businesses for helping to make thisevent possible for our students. Parents Who Care is a parent organization formed to create a drug andalcohol free after prom party for our students. The organization is always looking for volunteers!The Power of “1”!Last week was Wellness Week at <strong>Tipp</strong>ecanoe High School. Some of the highlights included the singingof “Stand by Me”; watching a video “Playing for Change”; some choir students accompanied by theMcCrazie’s led a group sing and the spontaneous assembling of almost two-thirds of the student bodyonto the gym floor as they stood arm-in-arm. Then the entire student body (CTC included) assembledinto a “1” outside by the band tower. The senior class circled the number and Expressions Studio took apicture to be printed and hung in the school.


Alternative Spring BreakTHS Language Arts teacher, Ian Porto led a small group of THS students on the first ever <strong>Tipp</strong>ecanoeAlternative Spring Break Trip (a service oriented outreach intended to provide students from THS withthe opportunity to serve in and learn about the city of Dayton). 2011 L. T. Ball Fitness Challenge Team!Congratulations to the 2011 Fitness Challengeteam! The team earned first place for the 5 thyear in a row! Students at LT Ball are also learning how to bea caring and supportive communitymember. Our community, ourcountry and our nation depends onthe good will of others throughphilanthropy and donations tosupport many organizations that wedepend on. The American CancerSociety is one of theseorganizations. Relay for Life is asignature event hosted all over theworld to help raise funds for theACS. Money is used for research,education and early detectionprograms. For the past seven yearsLT Ball has participated in theMiami County Relay for Life eventcurrently held in at the Miami County Fair Grounds. This year LT Ball is hosting a Mini Relay for Lifeto help Miami County raise donations for this worthy cause. Friday, May 13 from 5:30 – 11:00 p.m.community members, neighbors and friends are invited to come out to the track at Howell Field (behindLT Ball) to walk in honor of or in memory of someone who is or has battled with this disease. The 4 th &5 th grade classes will have carnival booths set up around the track to raise money for the ACS. There willalso be concessions and various performances going on all evening. Jeff Stevens DJ @ Mix 107.7 willbe MC for the event, provide music and commentary. The event will highlight our 4 th & 5 th gradestudents at 7:00 p.m. in a concert directed by Miami County Parks Chris Rowlands and music teacherSharon Pfister. Arbor Day at Broadway and Nevin Coppock Elementary <strong>Schools</strong>!Arbor Day was last Friday. In that day’s honor, the <strong>Tipp</strong> <strong>City</strong> Tree Board gave every first grader aseedling to plant at their home. Marilyn Fennell from the <strong>City</strong> spoke to the children about Arbor Dayand the importance of trees.Broadway’s Fun Fair was a hit!Thanks to all of the fabulous people of <strong>Tipp</strong><strong>City</strong>, over $11,000 was raised at Fun Fairthis year. This money will be used topurchase document cameras for eachclassroom at Broadway, give much-neededsupport to several families in need, as wellas provide financial assistance to theclassrooms of Broadway. A general meetingwill be held in May so your voice can beheard about the allocation of PALS fundsmoving forward. Thanks so much for yoursupport in what has been a time ofrebuilding!


The Super Citizen Word for April was Promptness!The Broadway Elementary students picturedwere chosen by their teachers for being promptand were treated to breakfast.Nevin Coppock April Ringmaster Breakfast!Each month Nevin Coppock teachers choose two students whoare giving their Best Performance every day! They base that onReliability, Responsibility, and Respect. Those students aretreated to breakfast from the Ringmaster (Mr. Brownlee). Inaddition to breakfast, they receive a certificate and a back packtag. Students Visit Air Traffic Control Tower at Dayton International AirportNevin Coppock 3rd grade teacher Kim Adkins and Gifted Intervention Specialist Carmella Lammers offered anoptional enrichment field trip on Saturday, April 16 th to students and parents. Nearly the entire class showed up!Classmate Ryan Bibby’s father Shawn, who is an Air Traffic Controller at DAY, took students on a “back stage”tour. Mr. Bibby and a colleague took turns taking small groups of parents and students up to the control tower andalso into the radar room and answered questions. It was fascinating and very educational for students and parents.The class visited the existing tower and was told that the air traffic controllers are looking forward to moving intothe new updated tower in June. A big thank you goes out to Mr. Bibby and the Dayton International Airport forproviding this enrichment opportunity to our students.Dance To Advance!Students at Nevin Coppock are Dancing to Advance! Dance to Advance is a fun and easy-to-use dance matactivity software for use across the curriculum. Teachers create, edit, and customize their own dance matactivities on any subject or topic using text, sound, or pictures. Dance to Advance teaches kids in a visual,auditory, and kinesthetic way. Pictured above, Ms. Robison is helping the students choose their characters for thecoin game that she created. Students were learning the value of each coin.“We were so busy living our lives,that we didn’t realize we wereliving history!”That’s what the <strong>Tipp</strong> <strong>City</strong> Historical Society was telling theNevin Coppock third graders during their Readers Theater.


Flight Around the World!The <strong>Tipp</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>Schools</strong> ESL Program invited families and staff to take a trip to tour the home countries of our ESLstudents. Seventy-seven guests (41 adults and 36 children) arrived with boarding passes and received individualpassports before departing on ESL Airlines at L.T. Ball Intermediate Elementary School and were taken to 12countries around the world including Bosnia, China, Ethiopia, France, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Mexico,Philippines, Russia, South Korea and Ukraine. Each country explained their culture by displaying a flag, anillustrated information board and original artifacts. Native food samples from each country were available forguests as well. The evening culminated in prizes being awarded for passengers who correctly completed aKnowledge Test about the countries they visited.Parents!
