Lifeguard Applicant ChecklistThank you for your interest in the on-call Lifeguard 1 position with the City of Kamloops. Thischecklist outlines the important steps and requirements of the recruitment process. You willalso receive additional information along the way via email – good luck!Contact Information – Email Address Include your email address (please print) with your application/resume as thisis how we will be communicating with you throughout the recruitment process.The lifeguard recruitment process:• First Interview- Saturday, September 15, 11:00am-4:00pm: selected candidatesattend mandatory pool evaluation session (see enclosed documents for details). Selectedcandidates to receive notification of session location/time via email by August 31 st .• Second Interview – September 20 & 21 (time TBA): selected candidates will bescheduled to attend an in-person behavioural interview at Kamloops Human Resources(105 Seymour Street). Carry the victim 15 metres while maintainingimmobilization and supporting the victim’s mouth and nose above the water.• Object recovery: starting in the water, demonstrate a 15-metre approach and surfacedive to recover a 9 kg (20 lb.) object located at the bottom of deep tank (approx. 3metres); surface and carry the object 5 metres to poolside.• Approach and carry: starting in the water, demonstrate a 15-metre approach tocontact a near-drowning victim in deep water; carry the victim 5 metres supporting thehead and shoulders above water.• Rescue drill: demonstrate a 5-metre approach on deck to enter the water andapproach 15 metres to recover a submerged victim; carry the victim 15 metres using acontrol carry.Stroke Evaluation/Endurance Swim: demonstrate a variety of swimming strokes (i.e. frontcrawl, backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke) and water rescue skills (e.g. egg beater, towingwith rescue tube) as you complete an endurance challenge (approx. 500 m. swim).NLS Simulation: you will perform NLS-style pool simulations in a randomly assigned lifeguardteam.First Aid Simulation: you will perform, as an individual, a land-based first aid scenario.****************************************************************************Interview Preparation1.
