In MemoriamDonald E. GartrellJanuary 24, 1941 – September 13, 2011Don Gartrell’s 26 years as Warner’s Town Moderator left an indelibleimprint on the memories of all our Town’s residents. Each of us remembersDon in our own way. Don’s son Bryce and daughter Mollysummed up their memories of their father as Town Moderator as follows.“As kids, we always thought that “Moderator” was Dad’s true calling, since the word seemed to fit his character so well, but we’ve sincelearned that the fiery personalities and “immoderate” characters hedealt with while fulfilling his duties were what he enjoyed the mostabout that position. He looked forward to his Town Meeting encounterswith those who were predictable firebrands or who often playedDevil’s Advocate, taking an almost Norman Rockwellian enjoyment insuch interchanges.”Don was honored in 2010 with the Warner Men’s Club CommunityService Award. His contributions to the Town he called home for 42years are well known. We were fortunate to have Don and his familyliving amongst us. At his memorial service last September, the outpouringof sympathy and support to Don’s family served to demonstratehis value to our community. Don will be remembered as a good, honest and fair man, an inspiration to us all.5
