saints at times go too close to the line, perhaps pursuingsome fleshly bait or golden bauble or earthly honor. Suchthe Adversary is ever ready to lay hold of, to drag themout into the darkness of sin, doubt, despair--further andfurther away from the Lord. The lesson of this picture to all Spirit-begotten childrenof God is, "Abide in Him," "Abstain from all appearanceof evil," "Draw near unto God," "Press onward andupward," "Take heed to yourselves," "Forget the thingsthat are behind," "Mortify your flesh," and earthly desiresand ambitions, Keep close to the Master, that "the WickedOne touch you not."But we again remind any who may be touched by theAdversary and temporarily ensnared that God is full ofloving-kindness, that His mercy endureth forever, for allthose who desire to live in harmony with Him. Whileit is true that the nearer we get to the separating line, the nearer do we come within the range of the Adversary'sinfluence and power, and the weaker becomes thepower of the Truth, the Spirit of the Lord, in our control, nevertheless, there is joy in Heaven over one sinner thatrepenteth, and the Lord will welcome the strayed sheep, even though He temporarily allow trying experiences.Ultimately to the returning one these experiences willprove valuable lessons, safeguarding against any furthertendency to stray or to dally with earthly things.====================R5147 : page 388THE PHILOSOPHY OF OUR DAILY EXPERIENCES"If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons;for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?"--Heb. 12:7.ALL CHASTENINGS are testings, but allchastenings are not necessarily punishments. We should judge of the purpose ofour experiences by self-examination, thatwe may ascertain whether in our conductthere has been something out of harmonywith the Father's will. In every case ourexperience is a test of our loyalty of heart--as to our willingness to learn the lessonswhich the Lord is seeking to teach us andour recognition of the source from which they come. The trials and difficulties of the consecrated child ofGod are not to be esteemed as the results of Divine carelessnessor indifference in regard to his interests, butrather as the outworkings of Divine providence in hisbehalf. Those who can see the matter from this viewpointare thus enabled to learn some of life's most helpfullessons, and are thereby prepared for the glorious futurewhich God has arranged for those who faithfully carryout their Covenant of sacrifice.
