Jesus, tired from Histeaching and healing, in which vitality wentout of Him for the relief of the people, had gotten into one of the boats formerlyused by some of His disciples in the fishingbusiness and still owned by them. The purposewas to cross the lake for a season ofrest and refreshment. The Master in thehinder part of the boat on a cushion was soon fast asleep.Suddenly a terrific storm set in which appalled even thoseaccustomed to such scenes. The winds were blowing andthe waves were tossing over the gunwales. It was anemergency; they could not bale out the water fast enough, and they wondered that the Master slept through it all. They came to Him and aroused Him saying, "Master, carest Thou not that we perish?" and He awakened andrebuked the wind saying, "Peace, be still." And immediately"there was a great calm."The experience was a valuable lesson to the Apostles, showing them the wonderful power of God exertedthrough their Master. Then is the time for us to exercise faithin Him who said, "I will never leave thee nor forsakethee." Then is the time to remember the Master's words,"My grace is sufficient for you; My strength is madeperfect in your weakness." Whoever can by the exerciseof his faith take hold upon the Lord will find a greatpeace, a great calm come into his heart and into all of hisaffairs. Then he can remember the Master's promisethat "all things shall work together for good to those wholove God, and who have been called according to HisPurpose."--Rom. 8:28.The text at the head of this study draws to our attentionanother storm. It pictures the great storm of troublewhich in the close of this Age will suddenly burst uponthe whole world of mankind and in which "Babylon theGreat, the Mother of Harlots," "like a great millstone will
