But is there not a compulsion to the Christian to observeone day in the week sacred to the Lord? Yes, weanswer; there is an obligation upon him such as there isupon no one else in the world. He is obligated by hisCovenant to the Lord to keep every day sacred to theLord. Every day he is to love the Lord his God with allhis heart, with all his mind, with all his being, with allhis strength; every day he is to love his neighbor as himself. And while striving to the best of his ability to conformto this spirit of the Divine Law, and while realizingthat the blood of Jesus Christ our Redeemer cleanses usR5028 : page 164from all the imperfections contrary to our intentions--these may rest in the peace and joy of the Lord continually."We which believe do enter into rest."There is no day of the week commanded to the spiritualIsraelite as respects physical or mental rest--the latterthey may have always, and the former may be ordered byhuman regulations for one day or for another. Nay, verily; rather, on the other hand, let usrejoice that there is a law which sets apart one day inseven for rest from business, etc. Let us use that dayas wisely and as well as we are able for our spiritual upbuildingand for assistance to others. What a blessing wehave in this provision! How convenient it makes it forus to assemble ourselves together for worship, praise, thestudy of the Divine Word! And if earthly laws providedmore than one Sabbath (rest) day in the week we mightwell rejoice in that also, for it would afford us that muchmore opportunity for spiritual refreshment andfellowship.Nor should our knowledge of the liberty we enjoy inChrist ever be used in such a manner that it might stumbleothers. Our observance of the Sabbath enjoined by the
