Vulgar, foolish and immodest picturesthere were on sale, but they were of European manufacture,and apparently sold to Europeans and Americans.A missionary of thirty years' residence assured us thatthe moral status of the people in general is quite good,excepting that of the Buddhist priests.UNITED STATES MISSIONSOur visit to the Philippine Islands gave us a greatlyincreased respect for the American flag. The changewrought in the twelve years of American supervision ofthe Philippines is little short of a miracle.
