nothing that is logical in any of these religions, becausethey all start out to claim that a man ought to be perfect, ought to be holy, and are agreed that he is not. Asbefore called attention to this agrees with the words ofGod with respect to Israel, "By the deeds of the Lawshall no flesh be justified in His sight." God's Wordagrees with all of these--that man is a sinner, that hecannot do the things that he would, that his ideals areto be and are higher than his capacity and ability. Andso St. Paul declares, "We cannot do the things whichwe would."ALL THE RACE SOLD UNDER SINChristianity answers that the reason is that we arefallen creatures, sold under sin. Who sold us, when andwhere? The Bible answers that "By one man's disobediencesin entered into the world, and death by sin; andso death passed upon all men." Death has passed uponthe entire race and thus impoverished it mentally, morallyand physically, so that now, because of the fall, wecannot do the things which we would like to do.The Bible tells us that originally Adam was not inour condition, but was perfect and could keep the DivineLaw perfectly, but that "we are sold under sin." Andso the Prophet David expresses the same thought, "Behold,I was shapen in iniquity, and in sin did my motherconceive me." So we behold that we are a race of sinners, imperfect mentally, morally and physically, andtherefore unable to keep the Divine standard or Law.What, then, does Christianity offer us that no other religionoffers us? Christianity offers us a Savior, and noother religion offers a Savior.Christianity recognizes that the condition came aboutby the disobedience of one man, Adam, and it sets forthJesus as the One who redeems man from that death sentencethat came upon our first parents: "As by a mancame death, by a man comes also the resurrection of thedead"; "For as all in Adam die, even so all in Christshall be made alive," writes St. Paul--"every man in hisown order." Here, then, Christianity has a logical superiority,in that it provides for a satisfaction of DivineJustice. All religions say that it is Divine Justice that is opposedto sin, but Christianity offers a satisfaction forDivine Justice. "Christ died for our sins"; "He gaveHimself a Ransom for all"; "He is the propitiation [satisfaction]for our sins, and not for ours only, but alsofor the sins of the whole world," writes the Apostle. So,then, Christianity is not only more logical, but is morejust--it recognizes Divine Justice. We must recognize that if God condemned the worldunderstandingly and truly, as the Great Judge of mankind, there must be some satisfaction of Justice ere theChief Justice of the Universe could set aside the penaltyand release the culprit. Man has sinned and the great
