About WANEPThe West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) is a leading RegionalPeacebuilding organization founded in 1998 in response to civil wars that plaguedWest Africa in the 1990s. Over the years, WANEP has succeeded in establishing strongnational networks and membership base <strong>of</strong> over 500 civil society organisations acrossthe Member States <strong>of</strong> ECOWAS. WANEP places special emphasis on collaborativeapproaches to conflict prevention, and peacebuilding; working with diverse actorsfrom civil society, governments, intergovernmental bodies, women groups and otherpartners.As part <strong>of</strong> its contribution to women, peace and security issues in West Africa and incomplementing the efforts <strong>of</strong> the United Nations, African Union and EconomicCommunity <strong>of</strong> West African States, WANEP took the initiative <strong>of</strong> developing a practicalGuide that will inform the implementation <strong>of</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Action</strong> <strong>Plans</strong> (NAPs) towards therealisation <strong>of</strong> the provisions <strong>of</strong> the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and relatedresolutions. This is in line with the vision <strong>of</strong> WANEP through its Women in PeacebuildingProgram (WIPNET) to ensure that women’s issues and needs are central to all forms <strong>of</strong>peacebuilding processes in the West African sub-region and beyond.WANEP believes that the guide will enhance and speed up the development <strong>of</strong> NAPsand ultimately ensure the full and equal participation <strong>of</strong> women in peace and securityagenda as enshrined in the various UN resolutions especially resolution 1325About the LEAD CONSULTANTPatricia Donli, the Chairperson <strong>of</strong> WANEP Nigeria Board is an educationist and lecturer<strong>of</strong> over 30 years in the Department <strong>of</strong> Biological Sciences, University <strong>of</strong> Maiduguri. Sheholds a B.Sc (Botany), M.Sc (Crop Protection) and Ph.D Degree in Agriculture withspecialization in Plant Pathology from the University <strong>of</strong> Newcastle upon Tyne. She iscurrently a Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Plant Pathology in the University <strong>of</strong> Maiduguri. She holdsvarious certificates in the area <strong>of</strong> gender, environment & sustainable development,good governance, conflict management and mediation, monitoring and evaluation.She was the North East Zonal Coordinator <strong>of</strong> WANEP Nigeria and is currently theExecutive Director <strong>of</strong> Gender Equality, Peace and Development Centre and Chairs theCitizens’ Forum for Constitutional Reform (CFCR), the Constitutional Reform DialogueMechanism (CRDM) and Board <strong>of</strong> <strong>Action</strong>Aid Nigeria and Zonal Coordinator Gender andConstitutional Reform Network (GECORN).
