ANSI/NIST-ITL 1-2011 - UPDATE 2013 DRAFT VERSION5.3.13 Type-13 recordsType-13 image records shall contain and be used to exchange variable-resolution latentfriction ridge image data (fingerprint, palmprint and/or plantar) together with fixed and userdefinedtextual information fields pertinent to the digitized image. In all cases, the scanningresolution for latent images shall be at least 39.37 ppmm (1000 ppi). The variableresolutionlatent image data contained in the Type-13 record shall be uncompressed or maybe the output from a lossless compression algorithm. The number of latent records in atransaction is only constrained by the total number of records that may be contained in atransaction (See Section 5.2).5.3.14 Type-14 recordsType-14 image records shall contain fingerprint image data. Fixed and user-defined textualinformation fields pertinent to the digitized image may also be included. While the Type-14record may be used for the exchange of 19.69 ppmm (500 ppi) images, it is stronglyrecommended that the resolution for fingerprint images be 39.37 ppmm (1000 ppi). Itshould be noted that as the class resolution is increased, more detailed ridge and structureinformation becomes available in the fingerprint image. However, in all cases the classresolution shall be at least 19.69 ppmm (500 ppi). The variable-resolution fingerprint image data contained in the Type-14 record may be in acompressed form. Some domains specify a set number of Type-14 records for an enrollment. An example isten rolled impressions of the individual fingers, two plain impressions of the thumbs or oneplain impression of the thumbs simultaneously, and two plain impressions of the remainingfingers of each hand. Some transactions may also include rolled tip images and either oneentire joint image or one full finger rolled image and left, center and right full finger plainimpressions. Most domains and application profiles require information if fewer than 10fingers were printed. Type-14 now contains a field to specifically convey this information(Field 14.018: Amputated or bandaged / AMP).5.3.15 Type-15 recordsType-15 image records shall contain and be used to exchange palm print image datatogether with fixed and user-defined textual information fields pertinent to the digitizedimage. While the Type-15 record may be used for the exchange of 19.69 ppmm (500 ppi)images, it is strongly recommended that the class resolution for Type-15 images be 39.37ppmm (1000 ppi). It should be noted that as the resolution is increased, more detailed ridgeand structure information becomes available in the image. However, in all cases the classresolution shall be at least 19.69 ppmm (500 ppi). The variable-resolution palm print image data contained in the Type-15 record may be in acompressed form. A typical transaction for some agencies includes: a writer's palm with anupper and lower palm from each hand and two full palmprints.5.3.16 Type-16 records38
