It describes the <strong>for</strong>mat of the data contained in Field 22.999:<strong>Image</strong>ry data block / DATA. DICOM is a commonly used medical imaging data <strong>for</strong>mat.3D dental (orthodontic) cast data (used <strong>for</strong> 3D printing) are often in PLY or STL <strong>for</strong>mat.8.22.11 Field 22.103: Dental radiograph image data / DRIDThis field contains im<strong>for</strong>mation specific to dental radiographic imagery.• The first in<strong>for</strong>mation item is the radiograph size / RGS. It is mandatory. Anycode value in Section 12.5 of the ANSI/ADA Standard No. 1058 may be entered.Note that only one value may be entered. Each image requires a separate recordwithin the transaction.• The second in<strong>for</strong>mation item is mandatory. It is the radiograph image series /RIS. It is mandatory and any code value in Section 12.6 of the ANSI/ADAStandard No. 1058 may be entered.• The third in<strong>for</strong>mation item is mandatory. It is the radiograph image in seriestext / RIIS. This is used to specify which individual image in a particular seriesis conveyed in this subfield. For example, if code 12.6.4.2.1 is selected (Twomaxillary molar periapicals), this in<strong>for</strong>mation item would specify ‘right’ <strong>for</strong> oneType-22 record and ‘left’ <strong>for</strong> another instance of Type-22. This is a text field ofup to 50 characters.• The fourth in<strong>for</strong>mation item is optional. It is the radiograph practitionerin<strong>for</strong>mation text/ RPRI. This is a Unicode free text in<strong>for</strong>mation item. It shouldcontain the practitioner’s name, address and telephone or other contactin<strong>for</strong>mation. This corresponds to code 12.6.13 of the ANSI/ADA Standard 1058,but also allows additional explanatory text, such as any unique featuresassociated with the radiograph.8.22.12 Fields 22.200-900: User-defined fields / UDFThese fields are user-definable fields.
