ANSI/NIST-ITL 1-2011 - UPDATE 2013 DRAFT VERSIONdescriptor code /AOD is set to 0, 1 or 2. If present, this field overrides Field 11.014:Codec / CDC. There cannot be multiple container formats specified within a singleType-11 record. The container format shall be entered as the appropriate integer codefrom Table 74 Audio Visual Container Codes. This field contains three information items. The first information item (container code /CONC) is mandatory. The second information item is used only when CONC is set to1. The third information item is required when CONC is set to 1 and is optionalotherwise.Files having container formats incorporate audio specifications to properly decode theaudio, such as the number of channels, sampling rate, bit/byte depth, and whether thedata is big/little endian. More generally, container formats can specify an audio formatused to encode the data, or simply encapsulate one or more audio channels as LinearPCM. The well‐known Wave container specification (WAV) has fields such as chunkID, chunk size, audio format (codec format), sampling rate, number of channels, spacefor extra parameters (for the codec or other uses).Table 74 Audio Visual Container CodesContainer Type Common file extension(s) ContainercodeRAW audio format undefined 0Container Type Reference various 1Other various 2WAV (RIFF audio) .wav 33GP and 3G2 mobile video .3gp .3g2 4AIFF .aiff .aif 5MP3 (MPEG-1, Layer 3 audio) .mp3 6QuickTime (Apple VBRaudio/video/image)(Note:.mov .qt 7allows pointers to external filesand servers)Video for Windows .avi 8Vorbis (OGG audio) .ogg 9Windows Media Type 1 .wmv .wma 10Windows Media Type 2 (Note:allows pointers to external filesand servers).asf .asx 11All of the audio characteristics required to properly interpret RAW format data (CONC= 0) must be provided; so if RAW is specified, then Field 11.014: Codec / CDC ismandatory. If CONC has a value other than zero then the presence of Field 11.014: Codec / CDCis dependent upon the type of container format.• If a container format specifies a codec which cannot be changed, then FieldMay, 2013 DRAFT VERSION UPDATE 2013 Page 247
