ANSI/<strong>NIST</strong>-ITL 1-<strong>2011</strong> - UPDATE 2013 DRAFT VERSION8.10.26 Field 10.027: Subject eye color / SECThis field is mandatory if the SAP entry (Field 10.013: Subject acquisition profile / SAP)is “40” or greater. For other facial images (IMT = 'FACE'), the field is optional. Whenpresent, it shall describe the eye color of the subject as seen in the photograph. If unknown,unusual or unnatural such as may be the case when colored contact lenses are present andthe “real” eye color cannot be ascertained, then the color should be labeled as “XXX”. Eyecolor attributes and attribute codes are given by Table 17. See Section 7.7.11 <strong>for</strong> furtherin<strong>for</strong>mation.8.10.27 Field 10.028: Subject hair color / SHCThis field is mandatory if the SAP entry (Field 10.013: Subject acquisition profile / SAP)is “40” or greater. For other facial images (IMT = 'FACE'), it is optional. When present, itshall contain one or two entries from Table 64 that describes the hair color of the subject asseen in the photograph. For unusual or unnatural colors not listed in the table, or the “real”color cannot be ascertained, the hair color should be labeled as “XXX”. If the subject iscompletely bald, or has a completely shaved head, then the hair color shall be labeled as“BAL”. When the subject is predominantly bald, but hair color is discernible, then theappropriate hair color attribute code shall follow “BAL” in a second entry. If a person hasmultiple hair colors (such as blue in the middle and orange on the sides), select one color <strong>for</strong>the first entry and the other <strong>for</strong> the second. For streaked hair, use “STR” in the first entry;use the second entry to describe the principal color of the hair.
