ANSI/NIST-ITL 1-2011 - UPDATE 2013 DRAFT VERSIONset to Y; otherwise, this field will be omitted. See Table 117: Features andCorresponding presence fields .8.9.7.39 Field 9.350: EFS method of feature detection / MFDThis optional field states the method(s) by which the Extended Friction Ridge featureswere detected and/or edited. Each time that fields are created or modified, the date andname of the automated algorithm or human examiner is noted in a new data entry(repeating subfield). 93 This field consists of nine information items, of which the first twoare mandatory.• The first information item (field / FIE) indicates which fields correspondto the method noted: it shall contain a single field (e.g. “9.331”), a commaseparatedlist of fields without spaces (e.g. “9.340,9.341,9.343”), or“ALL”. The allowed special characters are the comma and the period.• The second information item (method / FME) shall state the method bywhich the fingerprint features were detected and encoded, using the valuesfrom the “Code” column of Table 47.• The third information item (algorithm vendor / FAV) should identify thevendor of the encoding algorithm if the method is not “MAN”.• The fourth information item (algorithm / FAL) should identify thealgorithm by name and version for methods other than “MAN”.• The fifth information item (examiner surname / ESN) should contain thesurname (last name) of the fingerprint examiner, for methods other than“AUTO”.• The sixth information item (examiner given name / EGN) should containthe first name (given name, or first and middle names) of the fingerprintexaminer for methods other than “AUTO.”• The seventh information item (examiner affiliation / EAF) shouldcontain the employer or organizational affiliation of the examiner, formethods other than “AUTO”.• The eighth information item (date and time / EMT) should contain thedate and time that the determination was made, using Greenwich MeanTime (GMT). See Section 7.7.2.2.• The ninth information item (notes / NTS) is an optional item that maycontain text with additional information regarding the detection or93When features are created or edited on multiple occasions, the new data entries should be added to thisfield without deleting the original data entries. For example, if minutiae are manually encoded by anexaminer, then subsequently a second examiner modifies the minutiae, there would be two “MAN” entriesfor Field 9.331: EFS minutiae / MIN.172
