ANSI/NIST-ITL 1-2011 - UPDATE 2013 DRAFT VERSIONIn all cases for the EFS, when specific distances are specified, the distances are stated interms that correspond to an integer number of pixels at 500 pixels per inch, and the metricequivalents are rounded to two significant digits (0.01 mm).8.9.7.0.2 EFS region of interestThe Region of Interest is defined in Field 9.300: EFS region of interest / ROI as arectangle and/or a polygon that bounds the area of the original image containing a singlefriction ridge impression, and separates it from the background and any other frictionridge data present in the image.[2013a>] All EFS features are in relation to the Region of Interest, not to the originalimage; all coordinates are relative to the top left corner of the ROI. With the exceptionof Field 9.323: EFS center point of reference / CPR, the X and Y values for an EFSfeature may not equal or exceed the width and height of the ROI. The X and Y valuesfor CPR are the only EFS values that may be negative, or greater than the ROI width orheight; however, the center point of reference must be within the bounds of the overallimage itself. The ROI may be identical to the dimensions of the image 82 . [] New explanation updates the 2011 base text [
