Secondary outflow <strong>and</strong> return pipework 605Cold water feed pipeworkThe cold water feed to a hot water store is an integral part <strong>of</strong> the secondary outflowpipework. However, it is convenient to deal with it separately here, since it may originateeither from an elevated storage cistern or, as permitted by the Water Regulations from amains pressure service pipe. In either case, the head <strong>of</strong> water (or the mains pressure)provides the motive force which produces outflow at the points <strong>of</strong> draw-<strong>of</strong>f. The relationshipbetween these alternatives is given in Table 21.5.Piping design for outflowTaking the system illustrated in Figure 21.5 as an example <strong>of</strong> feed from an elevatedcistern, the hot water flow rate through the cold water feed <strong>and</strong> the secondary outflowpipework would be determined as shown in Table 21.6.
