In the body of the five elements, sky element<br />
represents space. The purport of earth element is the physical<br />
structure. The other three elements, viz., air, water and fire<br />
nourish the body.<br />

He made the waves of water, the fire and the air,<br />
and then joined the three together to form the world. He<br />
blessed these elements with such power, that they remain<br />
subject to His Command. ||6||<br />
Food provides energy to these elements in the human<br />
body. Some food influences one element and some other food<br />
influences two elements. But that food, which stimulates all<br />
these three elements is called balanced diet. The food which<br />
becomes responsible to harm any one element out of these<br />
three elements, is considered impure and is responsible for<br />
some disease. While ruminating about food, it is necessary<br />
to keep in mind the climate also. The impression of food can<br />
also be found out from the taste of the food. It also becomes<br />
known that the food of which taste effects which element.<br />
There are six tastes in all as given here: Sweet, Sour, Saltish,<br />
Bitter, Astringent and Tart. All these tastes have got a profound<br />
effect on the elements of the body. The awareness about these<br />
tastes can save us from many types of diseases and this gross<br />
human body can be maintained healthy and strong.<br />
1. Sweet, sour and saltish substances mitigate Air ele- ment<br />
in the body.<br />
2. Sweet, bitter and tart substances temperate Fire ele ment<br />
in the body.<br />
3. Substances of Tart, bitter and astringent tastes reduce the<br />
water element in the body.<br />
The increase and decrease in the quantity of these<br />
elements in the body becomes a cause of suffering. Therefore<br />
it is said that only the food becomes a cause of disease and<br />
also the food becomes a means for remedying the disease.<br />
The body contains eighty percent water. Through it all the<br />
operating systems of the body perform their respective<br />
functions properly. Circulation of blood in all the nerves and<br />
veins and arteries of the body, evacuation of filth and feaces,<br />
etc., all these tasks take place through water only. Green leafy<br />
vegetables are full of water and these bestow energy to the<br />
water element. Corn and pulses, etc. impart energy to the<br />
Fire element in the body, and make Liver, Spleen, Heart and<br />
Kidneys and Blood powerful. It is a common saying that.<br />

We should eat pulses which go along<br />
