LOCAL WORK ENVIRONMENTDarley House is part of the Aged & Residential Services Clinical Service Unit.Darley House is a residential aged care facility providing accommodation for sixty people whohave been assessed as requiring a high level of nursing care. Residents of Darley House mayenter directly from their home environment, from other aged care facilities or the acute hospitalenvironment.The over-riding principle of working in Darley House is to acknowledge that this is a home. Thesixty resident who live here are at all times to be treated with the dignity, respect, deference andrights we would all expect in our own homes.3. <strong>POSITION</strong> OBJECTIVEPerform the duties of this position efficiently and effectively, to the standards of the departmentas guided by the Aged Care Standards, including participating in the <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Health</strong>performance appraisal program.In accordance with the competency and skill level of an enrolled nurse, to be responsible for theprovision of resident care that is efficient, effective and the meets organisational,professional and nursing standards of resident focused care.4. <strong>POSITION</strong> REQUIREMENTS1. Ensure confidentiality. Employees will not reveal to any person or entity anyconfidential information relating to patients, employees, policies, processesand dealings including making public statements relating to the affairs of theMedical Centre without prior authority of the Chief Executive Officer.2. To consistently deliver a high quality of resident focused care.Best Practice in Aged Care is delivered in an individually focussed manner.3. To maintain and increase those skills, areas of knowledge and competenciesrequired fulfilling the role in line with current nursing knowledge and research.Increased knowledge and skills are actively pursued via internal andexternal education provision.4. To assist in the development of standards of care and ensure they meetprofessional, organisational, legal and ethical requirements.Involvement in the committee process is actively pursued.5. To accurately observe, document and report relevant nursing findings, withinthe framework of the nursing process and ACFI requirements.Best Practice and the Nursing Process are followed.6. To evaluate the effectiveness of your own performance and to undertakeperformance review according to <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Health</strong> standards.An initial1 month, then annual appraisal is conducted.10. To actively support and participate in quality improvement initiatives and assistin the preparation for Accreditation when due.11. Maintain safe work practices and environment by actively reducing hazards,reporting accidents/incidents, following and promoting the <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Health</strong>principles of the “Movesmart” & “No Needlestick” programs and activelypromote accident prevention.The „Movesmart‟ and „No Needlestick‟ program is attended initially, andcompetencies conducted annually.12. Enhance the lifestyle of residents in your daily practice.“Ongoing education in “Resident Focused” lifestyle for nurse in associationwith the Lifestyle Department.”13. To safely administer medications according to Darley House & <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Health</strong>policy guidelines.14. Abide by <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Health</strong> corporate policies and practices as varied from time totime.15. Participate in the emergency incident response activities, as defined within theEmergency Response Manual, as and when required, at the direction ofmanagement.16. Ability to use computer technology for electronic rostering and clinicalsystems on a daily basis. Sound knowledge of using a mouse and keyboardskills.5.
