Brief History…these diseases assume a differentcharacter almost every year and hencedemand for their cure, almost always, adifferent homoeopathic remedy, bymeans of one or a few very small dosesof which they may always be radicallycured in a few days.Organon of Medicine 1837

A patient suffering from a severe chronic disease willnot be infected by a moderate autumnal dysentery orother epidemic disease. The plague of the Levant, according to Larry, does not break out where scurvyis prevalent, and persons suffering from eczema arenot infected by it. Rachitis, Jenner alleges, preventsvaccination from taking effect. Those suffering frompulmonary consumption are not liable to be attackedby epidemic fevers of a not very violent character, according to Von Hildenbrand.Mémoires et Observations

Subsequently to the year 1801 a kind of pupura miliaris(roodvonk), which came from the West, was byphysicians confounded with the scarlet fever, notwithstanding that they exhibited totally differentsymptoms, that the latter found its prophylatic andcurative remedy in Belladonna, the former in Aconite, and that the former was generally merely sporadic, while the latter was invariable epidemic. Of late years itseems as if the two occasionally joined to form aneruptive fever of a peculiar kind, for which neither theone nor the other remedy, alone, will be found to beexactly homoeopathic.Organon of Medicine 1837

Even those epidemic diseases, whichundoubtedly may be propagated in everyseparate epidemic by a peculiar contagiousprinciple which remains unknown to us, aredesignated, in the old school of medicine byparticular names, just as if they were wellknownfixed diseases that invariablyrecurred under the same form, as hospitalfever, goal fever, camp fever, putrid

fever, bilious fever, nervous fever, mucousfever, although each epidemic of such rovingfevers exhibits itself at every occurrence asanother, a new disease, such as it has neverbefore appeared in exactly the same form, differing very much, in every instance, in itscourse, as well as in many of its most strikingsymptoms and its whole appearance. Each isso for dissimilar to all previous epidemics, whatever names

they may bear, that it would be dereliction of alllogical accuracy in our ideas of things were weto give to these maladies , that differ so muchamong themselves, one of those names we meetwith in pathological writings, and treat them allmedicinally in conformity with this misusedname. The candid Sydenham alone perceivedthis, when he (Obs. med., cap. ii, De morb, epid.) insists upon the necessity of notconsidering any epidemic

disease as having occurred before andtreating it in the same way as another, sinceall that occur successively, be they ever sonumerous, differ from one another. …Ininvestigating the totality of the symptoms ofepidemic and sporadic diseases it is quiteimmaterial whether or not something similarhas ever appeared in the world before underthe same or any other name.Organon of Medicine 1837

In investigating the totality of the symptoms ofepidemic and sporadic diseases it is quiteimmaterial whether or not something similar hasever appeared in the world before under the sameor any other name.with the exception of those epidemics resultingfrom a contagious principle that always remainsthe same, such as smallpox, measles, etc.Organon of Medicine 1837

.. whilst previously to the year 1801, when thesmooth scarlatina of Sydenham still occasionallyprevailed epidemically among children, itattacked without exception all children who hadescaped it in a former epidemic; in a similarepidemic which I witnessed in Konigslutter, onthe contrary, all the children who took in time avery small dose of Belladonna remainedunaffected by this highly infectious infantiledisease.

If medicines can protect from a disease that israging around, they must possess a vastlysuperior power of affecting our vital force.

It may easily happen that in the first case of anepidemic disease that presents itself to thephysician's notice he does not at once obtain aknowledge of its complete picture, as it is onlyby a close observation of several cases of everysuch collective disease that he can becomeconversant with the totality of its signs andsymptoms. The carefully observing physiciancan, however, from the examination of even thefirst and second patients, often arrive so nearly

at a knowledge of the true state as to have inhis mind a characteristic portrait of it, andeven to succeed in finding a suitable, homeopathically adapted remedy for it.Organon of Medicine 1837

All those affected with the disease prevailing at agiven time have certainly contracted it from oneand the same source and hence are sufferingfrom the same disease; but the whole extent ofsuch an epidemic disease and the totality of itssymptoms (the knowledge whereof, which isessential for enabling us to choose the mostsuitable homoeopathic remedy for this array ofsymptoms, is obtained by a complete survey ofthe morbid picture) cannot be

learned from one single patient, but is only to beperfectly deduced (abstracted) and ascertainedfrom the sufferings of several patients ofdifferent constitutions. The physician who has already, in the first cases, been able to choose a remedy approximating tothe homoeopathic specific, will, from thesubsequence cases, be enabled either to verifythe suitableness of the medicine chosen, or todiscover a more appropriate, the mostappropriate homoeopathic remedy.OM

Typhoid - ExampleThus in the year 1813 one patient would beprostrated with only a few symptoms of thisplague, a second patient showed only a few butdifferent ailments, while a third, fourth, etc.,would complain of still other ailments belongingto this epidemic disease, while they were, nevertheless, all sick with one and the samepestilential fever, and the entire and completeimage of the typhus fever reigning at

the time could only be obtained by gatheringtogether the symptoms of all, or at feast of manyof these patients. Then the one or two remedies, found to beHomoeopathic, healed the wholeepidemy, and therefore showed themselvesspecifically helpful with every patient, thoughthe one might be suffering from symptomsdiffering from those of others, and almost allseemed to be suffering from different diseases. In the typhus of 1813 bryonia and rhus tox were the specific remediesfor all the patients.Chronic Diseases 1800s

I have found the epidemically current intermittent feversalmost every year different in their character and in theirsymptoms, and they therefore require almost every year adifferent medicine for their specific cure. one year theyrequire arsenicum, another belladonna, anotherantimonium crudum, or spigelia, aconite, withipecacuanha, alternating with nux vomica, salammoniacum, natrum muriaticum, opium, cina, alone orin alternation with capsicum, or capsicum alone, menyanthes trifoliata, calcarea carbonica, pulsatilla, oneof the two carbos, arnica, alone or in alternation withipecacuanha, and with these they were cured in a fewdays.Chronic Diseases 1800s

Even at the beginning of the treatment of anepidemic intermittent fever, the homoeopathicphysician is most safe in giving every time anattenuated dose of Sulphur or in appropriate cases,Hepar Sulphuris in a fine little pellet or by meansof smelling, and in waiting its effects for a few days, until the improvement resulting from it ceases, andthen only he will give, in one or two attenuateddoses, the nonantipsoric medicine which has beenfound homeopathically appropriate to the epidemyof this year.

DOSEExperience has shown me, as it has no doubt alsoshown to most of my followers, that it is mostuseful in diseases of any magnitude (no exceptingeven the most acute, and still more so in the halfacute,in the tedious and most tedious) to give tothe patient the powerful homoeopathic pellet orpellets only in solution, and this solution individed doses.

In this way we give the medicine, dissolved inseven to twenty tablespoonfuls of waterwithout any addition, in acute and very acutediseases every six, four or two hours ;where the danger is urgent, even every hour orevery half-hour, a tablespoonful at a time; withweak persons or children, only a small part ofa tablespoonful (one or two teaspoonfuls orcoffeespoonfuls) may be given as a dose.

ROOTS OF EPIDEMICDISEASESEpidemic intermittent fevers probably neverseize a man who is free from psora, so thatwherever there is a susceptibility to them, it isto be accounted a symptom of psora.Chronic Diseases

Conclusion‣ Homeopathy provides both alternativeand complementary approach to epidemic‣ With emerging Nanotechnology, theeffectiveness of minute doses is alreadymaking headlines in medical literature.‣ It is worthwhile to avail homeopathy whennot much else is available.8/29/2009
