The focus <strong>on</strong> individual health <strong>and</strong> quality of life helpsenhance <strong>the</strong> community’s well-being, which is a true form of social capitalto be preserved <strong>and</strong> enriched..This is why <strong>Gatineau</strong> has taken <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> missi<strong>on</strong> of improving <strong>the</strong> qualityof life of individuals <strong>and</strong> communities by offering opportunities forrecreati<strong>on</strong>, <strong>sports</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> outdoors that are diverse, of high quality,accessible, safe <strong>and</strong> <strong>de</strong>livered fairly throughout <strong>the</strong> city so as toencourage regular involvement in recreati<strong>on</strong>, <strong>sports</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> outdoors.The more dynamic a community is in terms of recreati<strong>on</strong>, <strong>sports</strong> <strong>and</strong>outdoor activities, <strong>the</strong> more mobilizati<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> cooperati<strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong>re is, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>more resi<strong>de</strong>nts i<strong>de</strong>ntify with that community, become involved in it, <strong>and</strong>feel like <strong>the</strong>y are a part of its <strong>de</strong>velopment.
