Based <strong>on</strong> informati<strong>on</strong> provi<strong>de</strong>d by municipal workers <strong>and</strong>organizati<strong>on</strong>s, a number of people expressed <strong>the</strong> <strong>de</strong>sire to have advocacyinvolving community life integrated into a future social <strong>de</strong>velopment planor <str<strong>on</strong>g>policy</str<strong>on</strong>g>, <strong>and</strong> for <strong>the</strong> efforts currently un<strong>de</strong>rway to be <strong>de</strong>voted to <strong>the</strong><strong>de</strong>velopment of a <str<strong>on</strong>g>policy</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> <strong>sports</strong>, recreati<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> outdoors.For <strong>the</strong> fourth c<strong>on</strong>sultati<strong>on</strong>, <strong>the</strong> Sport, Recreati<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> Outdoor Forum invitedorganizati<strong>on</strong>s involved in recreati<strong>on</strong>, <strong>sports</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> outdoors to reflect <strong>on</strong><strong>the</strong> issues <strong>and</strong> acti<strong>on</strong> priorities stemming from a draft versi<strong>on</strong> of <strong>the</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>policy</str<strong>on</strong>g>.In total, around 50 organizati<strong>on</strong>s took part in this Forum, as did municipalemployees involved in recreati<strong>on</strong>. This ma<strong>de</strong> <strong>the</strong> Forum a <strong>de</strong>fining momentin <strong>the</strong> implementati<strong>on</strong> of <strong>the</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>policy</str<strong>on</strong>g>.With this new Policy <strong>on</strong> Sports, Recreati<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Outdoors, <strong>Gatineau</strong> hastaken <strong>the</strong> first step towards harm<strong>on</strong>izing <strong>the</strong> organizati<strong>on</strong> of <strong>and</strong> supportfor recreati<strong>on</strong>, <strong>sports</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> outdoors throughout <strong>the</strong> city.Through its acknowledged strengths, priorities <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> gui<strong>de</strong>lines <strong>and</strong> axesof interventi<strong>on</strong> it sets out, <strong>the</strong> Policy <strong>on</strong> Sports, Recreati<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Outdoors<strong>de</strong>fines <strong>the</strong> markers that will gui<strong>de</strong> its implementati<strong>on</strong>, <strong>the</strong>reby fleshing outan acti<strong>on</strong> plan <strong>and</strong> a support framework for its partners in organizingrecreati<strong>on</strong>, <strong>sports</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> outdoors.13
