On the night of March 28, five regions, by order of the Russian government will change their timezones. The Kemerovo and the Samara regions, Udmurtia, Kamchatka and Chukotka, do not switch to daylightsaving time. Udmurtia and the Samara Region were moved to Moscow time, and the time zone which containedonly the two areas has ceased to exist. Gone also is the eastern Russian time zone: Chukotka and Kamchatka,which were nine hours ahead of Moscow, now have the same time as Magadan and are now eight hours ahead ofMoscow. The Kemerovo region also moved an hour closer to Moscow time. It is the westernmost of the WesternSiberian Regions whose time zone was moved, outrunning the capital by three hours. It is possible that in future,Russia will abandon the system "summer" and "winter" time, or daylight savings time as it is commonly known in thewest.
