The students wereable to ask him some of thetough questions which he washappy to answer. He alsoshared with the staff in theafternoon some of what ourstudents had learnt about. Inthe evening he ran a parentsession on 'talking to kidsabout sex'. A big thank you tothe 25 parents who took timeout of their busy week tocome and share in thisvaluable learning time. Over the 3 daysstudents participated in lots of exciting and challenging activities such as the flying fox,blue gum challenge, canoeing, possum pull, abseiling, bush walking and archery. Onthe final night students made a campfire where they cooked over 200 marshmallowswhile being entertained by Mr. Nehow on the guitar. Many of the students took theopportunity to challenge themselves and to stretch themselves beyond their comfortzone. If you are ableto help the <strong>College</strong> with the event staying overnight or for a few hours that toowould be greatly appreciated. In the meantime students areraising funds‐ each Friday they are selling icy poles at 1st Break for $1.In Week 4 the Year 11/12 Rec students travelledto Boyne Island for their camp. During the campthey also learnt how to SCUBA dive and they hadto do both the theory and practical componentsof the course. It was a fantastic week, with thestudents learning to SCUBA dive in the pool, riverand ocean off Gladstone. It was long days with lotsto learn followed by theory lessons at night. All ofthe students passed their certificates and arelooking forward to doing some more SCUBA divingin the future. Local EventsMueller <strong>College</strong>Music DepartmentTour Visits<strong>Riverside</strong> StudentsOn Tuesday we had avisit from music staffand students ofMueller <strong>College</strong> inRothwell. Theybrought theirsymphony orchestra ofaround 50 students,plus some extras(bass guitar, drums &saxophones) and theirchoir. They played 5pieces of musicranging from anorchestral version of‘The Man from SnowyRiver’ to the stringgroup performing ‘TheFinal Countdown’ andthe choir performing aNeopolitan song‘Funiculi, Funicula’.A highlight of theconcert was theirDirector of Musicinviting Ellie Seeney toconduct – heraspirations are now tobecome a professionalconductor. Manystudents and staffcame up to me andsaid how much theyhad enjoyed the music– and, moreimportantly, howmuch they had beeninspired. After theirrecital the Year 9/10music elective classperformed two taikopieces and I held ashort workshop forthem. JUST DANCE CONCERTA spectacular event!Last Wednesday night parents and friends were wowed by the moving performance of the Prep students“4 Seasons” item. At the end of the night the audience cheered in appreciation of the wonderful directionof evening by Mrs Desiree McGann and Mr Stuart Fern.“Hi, I would like to take thisopportunity to congratulatestudents, staff and helpers of<strong>Riverside</strong> <strong>Christian</strong> <strong>College</strong> forsuch an entertaining and totallyenjoyable afternoon at the danceperformances yesterday. Ourdaughter is in Prep and I wastotally blown away by theorganisation and professionalismof there performance, also thecostumes were absolutelymagnificent with the attention todetail being impeccable. It istimes like these that concrete mydecision to send our girls to yourinnovative and in my viewindustry leading school.
