GIS <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Intern</strong> II <strong>Position</strong>Pay Range: $12.20 - $16.82 (per hour, DOE or any other applicable info.)Hours: Flexible. Up to 20 hours/week when school is in session. 40 hours/week otherwise.Payroll <strong>Title</strong>: <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Intern</strong> IIDepartment/Division: Information Technology DepartmentEmployment Status: <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Intern</strong>Closing Date: Open until filled<strong>Position</strong> Summary<strong>Student</strong> interns are part <strong>of</strong> the GIS Services Team which provides mapping and analysis servicesto the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Bellevue</strong> internal and external clients. GIS Services are centralized withinInformation Technology. Thus the team provides services to all <strong>City</strong> departments, consultants,and the public. The team is part <strong>of</strong> a large GIS workforce consisting <strong>of</strong> analysts, developers, andpart-time staff. <strong>Bellevue</strong> GIS is a primarily ESRI shop using Oracle and SQL Server databases.<strong>Intern</strong>s will use tools including ArcGIS, Micros<strong>of</strong>t Access, Excel, and Word, plotters, and CDburners regularly. Duties will vary from fulfilling map requests, to data creation andmaintenance, to running and maintaining plotters, to meeting with clients. <strong>Intern</strong>s work closelyand receive daily direction from analysts.Primary Responsibilities• Create, update, and maintain GIS datasets using ArcGIS• Fulfill simple map requests using ArcGIS• Document and tract data and map requests• Follow <strong>City</strong>wide GIS standards for mapping and analysis• Print maps, load paper/print cartridges on plotters• Attend and participate in team meetings• Keep analysts abreast <strong>of</strong> project status• Meet with <strong>City</strong> staff to understand mapping and data needsQualifications• Enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Geography, GIS,Planning, Computer Science, or related field• Ideal candidates have experience with GIS s<strong>of</strong>tware, relational databases or spreadsheets,and computers running Micros<strong>of</strong>t Windows• Exposure to ArcGIS 9.x s<strong>of</strong>tware a plusPhysical Demands• The physical demands and work environment described here are representative <strong>of</strong> thosethat must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions <strong>of</strong> thisjob. • Must be enrolled in a bona fide education program. Full time employees taking eveningclasses, those enrolled in one course, or those going to school periodically are notconsidered student interns.• During the school year must be scheduled to work 20 hours or fewer per week.• During special situations (i.e. specific internship programs through school) or during schoolbreaks, can be scheduled to work more than 20 hours, up to full time, if appropriate.• Must be terminated as a student intern when no longer associated with an educationprogram.• At-will for the duration <strong>of</strong> the student intern status.How To ApplyApplication may be obtained online at www.bellevuewa.gov.
