Timber Plus ProjectEXTERIOR WALL CLADDINGMaterial:Species:Available:Processing Energy:Treatment required:Surface Finishing:Note:TDA’s Flatline Board Sytem.Pinus RadiataCurrently this is a conceptual timber cladding system developed by Australia’sTimber Development Agency. It is not yet in production but is an “open-source”system which can be utilised by any cladding manufacturer. Theoretically thereforeit could be manufactured in New Zealand utilising locally sourced, FSC certifiedtimber.N/A.H3.1 ACQ.Factory applied stain primer. Top coat on-site with either natural or tinted stain ORopaque paint finish.Metal cavity batten system and metal vertical board jointers recommended by TDAresearch body. This system is untested in multi-storey applications and wouldneed to be subjected to rigorous checks before it could achieve building codeapproval.Finish / Maintenance Note 1: this system would have to be assessed along with its special sealer coat –as system is new to Resene. Recommendation is written as for standard stain finishonly NOT including any proprietary finish.Note 2: Stain should be applied to ALL faces of the timber prior to installation – thisincludes the back face.Note 3: Check manufacturer’s instructions for colour restrictions on substrates. Darkcolours, in both paint and stain finishes, used externally may void warranties.Note 4: Resene “Cool Colours” technology is recommended where dark coloursare specified externally.Stain FinishLife Expectancy as per Resene “Expected Life System Chart” does not includeexterior stains- Stains need reapplication every 3-5 years to maintain their propertiesincluding, colour durablity, water-repellency and mould inhibition.- Note there will be areas to any stained building where stain fades fasterthan others.Description:1 st coat:2 nd coat:3 rd coat:Exterior timbers, stains and clear finishes, waterborne stainResene Waterborne Woodsman, waterborne stainResene Waterborne Woodsman, waterborne stainApply third coat if possible after 1 st summerSystem meets Environmental Choice but not Green Star MAT 10 requirements as at 15/05/08 –as there are no allowances for stains or clear finishes currently.Paint finishLife Expectancy as per Resene “Expected Life System Chart”- SC1 New and SC2 Repaint cosmetic only – 10yrs- SC3 – repaint with wear and tear – 6 yrsDescription:Exterior timbers, waterborne satinSurface Prep:If needed Resene Timberlock, solvent-bornepreserver/conditioner1 coat:Resene Quick Dry, waterborne primer / undercoat2 coat:Resene Lumbersider, waterborne satin3 coat:Resene Lumbersider, waterborne satin*Alternatively for Semi Gloss finish use Sonyx 101, D30 or gloss finish use Hi Glo, D31System meets Environmental Choice & Green Star MAT 10 paints requirements as at 15/05/08.Page 17 of 21 May 2008
