You can find restaurants which serve<br />

Argentinian, Bulgarian and Mexican<br />

traditional foods. The presence of<br />

nightclubs and discos completes the<br />

nocturnal peisage of the resort along with<br />

Superior Hotel, which was the first <strong>hotel</strong><br />

in Bulgaria to introduce the ultra allinclusive<br />

concept, which at the time was<br />

only used in Turkey and Greece. The<br />

Flamingo Grand Hotel, the only five star<br />

<strong>hotel</strong> in <strong>Albena</strong> has won the price for best<br />

<strong>hotel</strong> in Bulgaria. Opened on the 20th of<br />

June 2008, the Flamingo Grand is a<br />

superb adition to <strong>Albena</strong>, with its unique<br />

architecture and the confort it offers. It also<br />

contributes to the resort’s night life, as it<br />

has its own nightclub, located at the<br />

basement. It also has a winery where you<br />

can taste Bulgaria’s finest wines. The SPA<br />

center at the 3rd floor, ensures that those<br />

who choose these services will have a<br />

comfortable and relaxing stay at the <strong>hotel</strong>.<br />

Grand is open all year, having an<br />

amphitheatre with a capacity of 320<br />

people and 5 conference halls. The guests<br />

can benefit from a wireless internet<br />

Tourist sites<br />

The Baltata Natural Reservation enriches<br />

<strong>Albena</strong>’s natural scenery. Having a<br />

surface of 198 hectares it could be<br />

considered a real delta, on the Batov<br />

River. The reservation is host to over 250<br />

different plant species, out of which 28<br />

are protected by law, and 100 of them<br />

are medicinal plants. Here you can find<br />

over 300 species of unvertebrates, some<br />

of them being indigenous to this area.<br />

Here there are 183 different types of<br />

birds, out of which 167 are protected by<br />

law. and animals. Here you can admire<br />

the rare osprey and the heron, just to<br />

name a few of the magnificent birds<br />

found in the reservation. The ’Calm<br />

Nest’Castle in Balcic, found at 9 km<br />

from<strong>Albena</strong> is famous for the its historical<br />

importance and for the beautiful botanical<br />

garden around it, containing an<br />

impressive collection of cactus plants,<br />

making it unique in all of Central and<br />

Eastern Europe. The castle was the<br />

favored residence of Queen Mary of<br />

Romania. Know as the ’White City’,<br />

Balcic was built on the site of the ancient<br />

Greek city of Dionissopolis. The first<br />

records mentioning the city are 2600<br />

years old, Balcic is one of the main<br />

attractions on the Black Sea coast, along<br />

with Cape Caliacra and the city of<br />

Nessebar<br />

Cape Caliacra, found at 45 km from<br />

<strong>Albena</strong>, pierces 2 km into the Black Sea,<br />

having an altitude of 60 m. It is formed by<br />

limestone cliffs and is an important part of<br />

the ’Silver Coast’. In antiquity, Cape<br />

Caliacra was named Tirisis and was the<br />

second largest fortress after Tomis.<br />

Nowadays you can find a museum which<br />

contains a model of the old fortress.You<br />

can still see the ruins of the old gate,<br />

churches, fountains or communal baths.<br />

From here you can belucky enough to<br />

spot 3 species of dolphins from the Black<br />

Sea and birds like the sea gull. 11
