'Number Two' fish was not as good. The lowest grade of fish, or 'Cullage' wasleast valuable and was often sent to the West Indies.The value of the shipped fish would be used to pay off the fisherman'saccount. This was called 'squaring up' or 'straightening up'. Then, thefisherman would buy more supplies for the winter. If it was a good year, hewould even have some money left over.Culling Fish at Earle and Sons Company Limited, FogoFishermen also sold cod liver oil to the merchants. The livers would be cookedin 'muck bags'.
