IntroductionLeading heating technology from Europe's largest brand -manufactured in Germany's most sustainable factoryEstablished in 1917, <strong>Viessmann</strong> draws on more than 90 years of experience in thedevelopment and manufacture of heating systems and due to its high commitment toquality, it is Europe's single largest brand in heating technology. <strong>Viessmann</strong> is a thirdgeneration family business and as such is able to hold true to its principles of innovation,efficiency and sustainability; this is a significant reason behind <strong>Viessmann</strong>'scontinuing success.<strong>Viessmann</strong>'s domestic product range has been built around a long established reputation forhigh quality commercial heating systems. <strong>Viessmann</strong> has utilised its extensive knowledgeand expertise to develop domestic heating products that define the quality benchmarkfor other brands. <strong>Viessmann</strong> manufactures all of its own products and controls to ensurethat the drive for quality remains throughout the entire range and that there are additionalbenefits from combining its heating technologies. <strong>Viessmann</strong> produces and sells products inthe following sectors: high efficiency boilers, both domestic and commercial; solar thermalflat plate and tube collectors and PV panels; air source and ground source heat pumps;biomass boilers; and CHP units for commercial and domestic use, using a number of fuelsincluding biogas.However the principles of innovation, efficiency and sustainability don't only apply toproducts, but extend to all areas of the business. <strong>Viessmann</strong>'s head office and productionfacility in Allendorf, Germany, was restructured from 2007 to 2009 at a cost of 220 millionEuros and energy use was aligned with European climate change goals, of a 20% reductionin energy usage and CO 2 emissions and a transfer of 20% of energy production intorenewables, by 2020. In 2009, under the umbrella of the 'Efficiency Plus' project, <strong>Viessmann</strong>achieved its goal of saving 40% of oil, gas and electricity through the use of renewableenergy while at the same time reducing CO 2 emissions by a third. Almost all measures toimprove efficiency and renewable substitution were achieved with commercially availableproducts made by members of the <strong>Viessmann</strong> Group; whether these were Solar panels,CHP units, Oil, Gas or Biomass boilers.For this project, <strong>Viessmann</strong> received the German Sustainability Award 2009 in the category"Most Sustainable <strong>Product</strong>ion" as well as the German Energy Agency’s Efficiency Awardin 2010. In addition, <strong>Viessmann</strong> was honoured with the 2011 German Sustainability Awardin the category "Most Sustainable Brand". These awards recognised the company'sachievement of combining economic success with social responsibility and environmentalconservation. Control technologyControls<strong>Viessmann</strong> boilers have the added benefi t of advanced control technology.<strong>Viessmann</strong> controls are easy to install,maintain and operate and benefit from faultlogging and diagnostic systems. They switcheasily between Winter and Summer settingsand some models have useful short cuts,including holiday, party and economysettings. All Vitodens boilers will operatewith <strong>Viessmann</strong> and non-<strong>Viessmann</strong>external controls.Lambda Pro ControlThe Lambda Pro combustion controller worksalong side the burner to constantly monitorthe air to gas ratio. Instead of the gas mixremaining fixed from installation, the mixis automatically adjusted to maintain thecorrect ratio – in a similar way to the fuelmanagement system in your car engine.This also means that on-site commissioningtime is reduced.The Lambda Pro is designed to workefficiently irrespective of the quality of thegas – a factor which will become more andmore important as international gas suppliesbecome less reliable.Weather CompensationWeather compensation controls are a great,low cost way to make a boiler operate moreefficiently. They can save up to 15% of annualfuel bills – that's on top of the big savings thatyou get from changing to a condensing boiler.The boiler is connected to a small sensor onthe outside of the building. When thetemperature changes outside, the boilerresponds and starts to increase or decreasethe radiator temperature, to compensate.This pro-active mechanism means thatpeople inside the building won’t even noticethat the temperature outside has changed.These constant small changes also mean thatthe boiler is able to operate at the minimumtemperature required to keep the roomswarm. This keeps the return temperature aslow as possible and a return temperature of57°C or less means the boiler can condenseas it is designed to. Weather compensationmaximises the condensing period of the boilerand results in significant fuel savings.The control replaces the traditional gas valveand changing to LPG takes just a few seconds– with no replacement parts! The LambdaPro is an integral component of the Vitodens200-W, Vitodens 222-F and Vitodens 242-F.
