CH O R A L SE RVICES 

Services are normally sung by King’s College Choir on Sundays and from 

Tuesdays to Saturdays. Services on Mondays are sung by King’s Voices, 

the College’s mixed voice choir. Exceptions are listed. 

OR G A N RE CITALS 

Each Saturday during term time there is an organ recital at 6.30 p.m. 

until 7.15 p.m. Admission is free, and there is a retiring collection. There 

is no recital on 22 January.

HO LY WE E K A N D EA S T ER SE RVICES 

Holy Week and Easter will see the seventh Easter at King’s. The Chapel 

Choir will, as always, play an important part in this, opening the festival 

with Bach St John Passion on Tuesday 19 April. Other events include 

the Tenebrae Responsories of Victoria, the four hundredth anniversary 

of whose death occurs this year, which will be presented liturgically on 

Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. Further details of 

the concerts and how to book tickets appear later in this booklet. 

MU S I C 

Contemporary music features strongly this term. The season of Epiphany 

is longer than usual because of the very late occurrence of Easter: this gives 

time to include a number of the College’s recent Christmas commissions, 

beginning with the most recent, by Rautavaara, at the first service of 

term. 

Richard Rodney Bennett celebrates his 75th birthday this year, and will 

be presenting a cabaret with Claire Martin in Hall on Saturday 5 March. 

Earlier, at Evensong, the choral scholars will perform his Sermons and 

Devotions, settings of John Donne, originally written for The King’s 

Singers, and Parker Ramsay, junior organ scholar, will play Richard’s 

Alba in the organ recital on that day. Ben-San Lau, senior organ scholar, 

provides a rare chance for us to hear Messiaen La Nativité du Seigneur 

on Saturday 5 February. 

In place of Evensong on Monday 14 March, King’s Voices will perform 

Via Crucis by Liszt, the two hundredth anniversary of whose birth is 

marked this year. His work is also celebrated in the organ recital on 

Saturday 12 March.
