Menhave been constantly endeavouring to remove these imperfections<strong>and</strong> to improve their environment, but withoutsuccess. Christ alone is able to accomplish this greatwork; <strong>and</strong> we are assured in the Scriptures that He -do so; it is for this purpose that He comes again. %<strong>The</strong> Cause of the Present Imperfection.What is the cause of the fact that all men are more orless imperfect mentally, physically, <strong>and</strong> morally? Clearlyfor the most part, their frailty is due to heredity. Somesay: It is all very well to blame heredity, but a man's imperfectionsare due to his own fault. While this is true,it is so only to a small extent. "<strong>The</strong> fathers have eaten a sour grape [ofsin], <strong>and</strong> the children's teeth ay set on edge "-Jeremiah-1, 29. tAs it is evident that we are all imperfect, <strong>and</strong> thereforeall sinners, mainly through the law of heredity, it isnecessary to inquire: How did sin enter the world? If wetrace the law of heredity backwards, we come to the firstman.
