'While in the allegory we are still dealifig'with the LawDispensation, we know that 'what took place in that' Agewas typical of the realities of the Gospel Age. In thetypical Law Age, the destruction of Sodom allegoricallyrepresented. the overthrow of the kingdom of Israel in606 B.C; <strong>and</strong> in a secondary sense it might also be regardedas representing the complete overthrow of Israel as anation in 70 A.D. But since these two important events,through the over-ruling providence of God, occurred asfigures of the much greater downfall of Christendom nowbegun, so the destruction of Sodom by fire <strong>and</strong> brimstonefrom heaven foreshadowed in the fullest degree the ever-'lasting destruction of Christendom at the end of the GospelAge. That this application is correct there is no doubt,for Jesus himself connected the destruction of Sodom withthe overthrow of the Present Evil World (see Luke17:28-32). In the 11th chapter of Revelation, also, Ch'rist-:endom is spiritually called Sodom. In this 11th chapterof Revelation "two witnesses" are prominently mentioned.'In the syn~bolisms of this book these two witnesses repredsent the Old <strong>and</strong> New Testaments, which warn the Spirit-'ual Israelites to flee from the destruction' of Christendom,just as Lot was warned by the two angels, to escape out,of Sodom before the fire <strong>and</strong> brimstone came down.
