Thus Abraliam himself enacted the part of God (Rorn.4: 17; also Isa. 51:2). His two wives, as we have seen,represented God's two covenants-Sarah. the originaloath-bound covenant, or covenant of Grace, <strong>and</strong> Hagarthe law covenant. His children by these wives representedGod's Children, fleshy <strong>and</strong> spiritual, which Hebegat through His two covenants. Isaac typified theSpiritual Seed, Christ head <strong>and</strong> body, sons of God begottenthroi~gh the original oath-bound covenant; <strong>and</strong> Ishmaeltypified the nation of Israel, the progeny of the lawcovenant. <strong>The</strong>se two covenants may therefore be likenedto two wives. God being their husb<strong>and</strong>.Each journey of Abraham from place to place representedGod changing to a new phase of His foreordainedPlan. Every action of Abraham pictured some .defitlitt:dealing of God with mankind. And the persons withwhom Abraham came into contact typified particularfeatures of tl~e LORD'S scheme of salvation.Nearly fourteen chapters of the book of Genesis aredevoted to the life-history of Abraham-namely, chapters12 to 25. We notice that the first three chapters present,allegorically, a general outline of the three great Dispensationsinto which the Divine Plan of the Ages is divided;<strong>The</strong> succeeding chapters enter into the details of thevarious Ages, <strong>and</strong> especially describe God's dealings withHis covenanted people during these periods.
