The YAK Golf CourseLocation and layout:Located at Kupup in east <strong>Sikkim</strong>, the Yak Golf course is a challenging18-hole course featuring meandering fairways across mountainstreams and teasing browns.The layout of the course coupled with the numerous rivulets thatcriss-cross through the course add to the thrill of playing in this highaltitude.The fairways are lush green with natural streams and ponds ashazards, which makes the game interesting and challenging.


The YAK Golf CourseRules:Due to natural lay of the ground, preferred lie is permitted to avoid damage tothe clubs as well as to complete the course within the given score of 72Facilities:The club is open seven days a week, round the year subject to snowconditions. However, it is generally playable from May to Dec.During the winter, the golf course remains active by becoming a ski centerwhere people can come and learn ‘Ice Hockey’, Ice Skating’ and ‘Skiing’.Caution:A golfer unless acclimatized to these majestic heights needs to move slowlyon the course. Yaks are recommended to be used by senior members. Thisadds to the fun of playing at such heights and only the privileged few canexperience such delights.

The Yak Environmental Park and Training Area formerly known as YakGolf Club was laid out in Aug 1978 and the work on the course wascompleted by early 1979.The first tournament held was theSaragarhi Cup on 09 Sep 1979.The Kalimpong Cup washeld in 1988.


Getting there:The YAK Golf Course, Kupup can be reached from Gangtok or Kalimongvia road.Nearest Airport: Bagdogra (WB)Nearest Railway Station: New Jalpaiguri (WB).Road: Bagdogra/ New Jalpaiguri/ Siliguri - 3 hour drive to Gangtokand another 2 hour drive to Kupup.Road: Kalimpong: A 5 hour drive to Zuluk (acclimatization camp) andfurther 2 hours to Kupup.Dress:Woolens and windcheaters are recommended to protect from cold.Woolen caps and gloves are available at the Golf Hut for use by the members


Kupup: A small village overlooking the course. An important linkon the historically acclaimed Young Husband’s Track.>> track running thru the golfcourse which was used by theCaptain Young Husband of theBritish Army during thehistorical military expedition toTibet in 1903


Bitang Chho: A lake of scintillating beauty only 3 km from the Clubhouse. The lake provides an excellent view where rainbow andbrown trouts are available in plenty.Menmoi Chho. Another breathtaking lake with a fascinating viewabout 4 Kms from the Course towards Gangtok. An excellent picnicspot.


Baba Harbhajan Singh’s MandirA place revered by both the locals and the men in Olive Green. The new Mandiris about 3 Kms from the Course towards Gangtok and the original Mandir and hisplace of residence is approx 3 kms towards Kalimpong on the Zuluk axis.While approaching the original mandir one passes through Tukla pass where amajor battle was fought and also the point from where one gets the best view ofKanchanjunga peak.


Watershed Memorial: A monument constructed in the memory ofall those gallant soldiers who laid down their lives to save thewatershed. It adjoins Baba Harbhajan Singh’s New Temple.Tshomgo Chho: Another popular picnic spot about 25 km fromGangtok while driving towards Kupup.


Natu LaAn important pass on the historic ‘Silk Route’ from Gangtok to Lhasa,which is now extremely famous due to the opening of trade between Indiaand China through this pass. This has also been a point of confrontationbetween India and China in 1967. The Indian Army here has built thehighest conference hall in the world. It is about 14 kms from Kupup.


Added AttractionsSkiing: The period from Dec to May is ideal for skiing onthe slopes of Tiger Hill next to the Golf Course.Angling: Rainbow and brown trouts abound in thelakes of Bitang Chho, Samsarovar and Menmoi Chho,which are an angler’s delight.
