I Blame Coco at the UEFA Euro2012 Fanzone
I-3, Gdańsk, Fan Zone, Pl. Zebrań Ludowych. Eliot
Pauline Sumner goes by the stage name of Coco Sumner. In
fact she’s Sting daughter and, understandably, doesn’t want
to be known just for that, who would? Her debut album The
Constant is a mix of pop, rock ska and electro. This concert is
part of the Euro 2012 programme of events, all taking place
after the last match of the day finishes. Q Admission free.
20.06 Wednesday
Noel Gallagher at the UEFA Euro2012 Fanzone
I-3, Gdańsk, Fan Zone, Pl. Zebrań Ludowych. Come
along to the Fan Zone for a genuine giant of the modern music
scene. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, we all have a favourite Oasis
number. Post split has seen the more cerebral brother record
two albums so far, so come along and check out the new
material. A word to the wise, don’t hold your lighter up if he
does Wonderwall, he doesn’t like it, makes him feel like Elton
John by all accounts. Support will come from West London
indie rockers The Vaccines. Q Concert starts at 18:00.
Tickets 85zł. Available at Empik, ul. Podwale Grodzkie 8, B-2
(Open 09:00 - 21:00, Sun 11:00 - 20:00) and www.ebilet.pl.
another DJ, John Gallahan. Q Concert starts at 18:00. Tickets
08.07 Sunday
Elton John
Gdańsk/Sopot, Ergo Arena, Pl. Dwóch Miast
(Żabianka). Elton John seems to have found some time
to play on the border of Gdańsk and Sopot in between the
hundreds of concerts he plays in Las Vegas. He’s still a big
draw in these parts and, watching the splendid Gnomeo
and Juliet, has still got ‘it’. Over his carrier he has released
almost 30 albums, he’s won an Oscar for The Lion King and
oodles of other gongs all over the world. No doubt retailers
will be hoping he goes on one of his legendary shopping
binges too, we will have to wait and see. Q Concert starts
at 20:00. Tickets 190-600zł. Available at www.ticketpro.pl.
important artistic element of theatre production. On display
Baltic Sail
05.07 Thursday - 08.07 Sunday
Baltic Sail 2012
Gdańsk, www.balticsail.pl. Created as an opportunity for
sailing enthusiasts from Poland and neighbouring countries
to share their passion for the sea, Baltic Sail dates back to
Gdańsk’s millennium celebrations in 1997. Nowadays the
members cities include: Klaipeda, Gdansk, Rostock, Karlskrona,
Halmstad, Sassnitz, and Świnoujście. An additional
aim is also for Gdansk to maintain its status as Poland’s
maritime capital and to help preserve the traditions of the
region’s naval history.
More prestigious as the years go by, it attracts visitors from
all over the world and this time out seems to an extra special
gathering. There will be sailing ships, regattas, parades, the
Neptune Shanties Festival and the chance to cruise around
Gdańsk Bay on one of the beautiful yachts, the cost a reasonable
30-45zł, tickets at the Baltic Sail stand on the Fish
Market (Targ Rybny, D-3). Gdańsk Marina (D-4/5), is surely
one of the most beautiful marinas in this part of Europe
and it will host sailing vessels from the ports of Sweden,
Russia, Latvia, France and Poland. As ever the event will be
open to anything that floats from yachts to motorboats and
traditionally all those relying on wind power will take part in
a race to win the Neptune trophy. Something new this year
is a 50 metre-high big wheel next to the Motława providing
an ideal place from which to watch the yachts racing and
take in the panorama of Gdańsk. Also for the first time this
year we will be able to enjoy The Baltic Sail Nation Cups
where teams will battle it out for the Baltic Nations Trophy.
On the final day there will be a magnificent parade with all
the vessels in full sail. Great stuff.
for everyone and projections will take place at the Multikino
cinema, ul. Waszyngtona 21 and the Film Club in Gdynia, ul.
